hi folks,

I've had a Linksys WAG310 for over a year now (bought it for temporary use in remote locations) and I'm amazed to learn the issues still haven't been resolved. Will soon need it again (or buy something else).
Maverick: you're mentioning a newer version of the firmware?
Does anyone here know how to mount the firmware image file so that we can fix the problem ourselves?
Or how to obtain either telnet or ssh access?

Running WAG310Gv1-1.00.03(100603-1909).img firmware.

That firmware file is the latest version that I know of. Am still having the issue here so all we have to do is wait for cisco to put out a new firmware that will hopefully fix this problem. Other than that I am finding the WAG310G is a good modem/router

Hi there,

Well.... I've had this WAG310 modem/router for over a year now and there hasn't been an official firmware update since (while the problems are persisting). I'm not very impressed with the firmware (hardware seems fine :-) ).

Since WorldXchange is able to modify & release firmware, I've asked them if they could provide me with access to the firmware so I can fix it myself, failing releasing a reliable version of the firmware (by WorldXchange or Cisco/Linksys).

hmmm... i downloaded the firmware from the xnet http server a couple of weeks ago http://58.28.20.69/firmware/ , i upgraded <to WAG310Gv1-1.00.03(100603-1909).img>, restored to factory setting and set it up again. it seems to work for me. connect my xbox, stream AV files, heavy torrent but haven't experienced any downtime yet.

Hi guys,

bbbgeek and kfella2000 have you had any luck with drole's suggested fix? I'm deciding if I go for one of these routers (given they are cheaper than the newer replacement model) - but if your having issues that can't be resolved maybe I should pass.

Thanks,
George.

Sort of related - I returned my WAG160 once Cisco admitted there was a known conflict between SPI and local traffic (WTF??), and then returned the replacement AG300 once it became obvious it wouldn't sync at full speed for ADSL2+ in NZ.

It'll be a long time before I buy another product from a company that knowingly puts (at least) two products on the market that they know are not up to standard. Talk about trading on past reputation.....

Heya,

The latest firmware seems to be holding it together but I haven't yet put it to the test.

FYI I've also requested the sources from Cisco.

Hi all,

Firmware 1.00.03(100603-1909)-AU so far is performing well - haven't seen a disconnect yet.

Linksys also provided the sources under the GPL. I requested the sources from freesoftware@cisco.com and got send a link to download the tar ball. Haven't compiled the image yet but it all looks sufficiently documented and structured. So if you're familiair with a Linux cross toolchain build environment, you can roll your own :-)

Yes after having a bit of a play with one or two settings my WAG310 went for 9 days but had a IP conflict and had to restart the router then. I dont know if I am on the right track with this but I have removed the 2 time servers that the wag310 sets its time by and in doing so the date and time are back in the year 2000 but so far havent had any disconnects happen like I said when I first posted.

There is a new firmware update that we have available and will be rolling this out in the very near future to our VFX customers, it does address some wireless issues and some disconnections by the looks of it, we have been running this for a while to check interop and my own guys have reported some good improvements on the wag310

If you have a wag310 on VFX, most have upgraded a few hundred to go the version should be .03(100701-1727), check to see if you have it , you can power cycle your box and this should force the a firmware check... they should all be done with 48 hours though

Hi guys,

How are you going with your WAG310G's now? I have recently acquired one of these, but am having real issues connecting to it wirelessly. I have latest firmware and have no probs with the voice or internet connection via LAN.

Basically, most of the time I either can't see the wireless network or I can see it but when I try to connect I just get a "windows can't connect to this network" error. No amount of restarting the router or laptop helps. Also I have noticed when I can see the wireless network its strength is lower (2 or 3 bars) than my old WAG200G) which also is a bit of a worry. I should clarify that on the odd occasion I can connect, but then the connection can drop out, or I can't connect the next time I power up the laptop.

I am starting to think I should just go back to my WAG200G and SPA2102, but I would like an all in one to avoid all the cables, etc, and also have better QOS.

Thanks,
George.

Hi George I have done exactly that. I have gone back to my AG310 at the moment and that is working fine on the internet connection side of things. I didnt have any issues with the wireless on my WAG310. What I am doing now is waiting to see what happens next month when we finally get ADSL2+ and see what happens with the WAG310 then.
