Hey there,

Thinking about buying a Dynalink RTA1320 modem to problem solve some issues (Pairing it with a WRT54GL running Tomato as suggested on this site)

..... just wondering what the difference between the original RTA1320, the RTA1320E and the RTA1320V6 that are floating around....some are black, some are white etc etc.

I realise all the issues with overheating etc.... but should I just invest in one of the original white ones that are floating around on trademe?

I have a black one - the RTA1320E - and it is solid as despite the heat issues. I cant comment on the other models, but can definately recommend the black ones.

I suggest that you cut some big holes in the cover and buy a couple of heatsinks for the two main chips. (I presume the heat issue is in all of the 1320 range)

Ive used these from jaycar as they're self-adhesive

If your after something for testing I'd got for the RTA1320E (black one). Ive had lots of issues with the older RTA1320 (white ones, no E) and no issues with the RTA1320E

The TP-Link 8810 has the same chipset so is also nice to get, but the black RTA1320E should be fine.

RTA1320E is a newer model revised edition, better cooling design for the casing to help increase the lifetime of the unit (compared to RTA1320).

I'd probably get the TP Link TD-8840 myself, the extra 4 port switch comes in handy. You can get one for about $60 new.
