Can anyone tell me how to check the performance of my ADSL modem?

We have intermittent broadband problems in our household.

Isolation testing suggets it is not the phones etc in the house that are the problem.

I installed new filters but the problem still persists and I now suspect the modem.  It frequently drops the ADSL.

The modem in question is a D-Link ADSL-502T (Gen 1), and I think about 5 years old.

Is there anyway to test its function, or should I just get a new one?

Hi, Log into the modem (10.1.1.1) as I recall and find the ADSL stats page, post the results. I dont recall if the 502s have DSL diagnostic modes, but its a pretty old modem and does not support ADSL2+ so I would suggest change it regardless, but also sort any line related issues.

By isolation testing you mean that you removed all phones/filters/sky-decoder, to leave only the modem connected? I presume to do not have a monitored alarm connected to the phone line in any way, that will give u an unstable ADSL signal and is fixed with a master splitter on the house wiring. If none of those things can improve the connection, it might be worth testing another modem too.




Qualified in business, certified in fibre, stuck in copper, have to keep going  ^_^
