I was using firefox on 7 but on 8 I was using Chrome

Currently in Ubuntu Live USB with a persistence file. Just ran mPrime (Prime 95 for Linux) and after 20mins it locked up. I was able to move the mouse but there was no response to any input. So it seems down to the CPU or motherboard. What do you guys think I should do now? I bought everything from computer lounge

stop error installing xp from scratch is bad news.. x7b I think means hardware conflict or
bad memory i think.. would need to google up error codes.

blue screen of death on xp install ouchhh..

even if live cds lock up.. sounds like some bad hardware. as your running it from
cdrom not using hard drive at all?

but did you remove the hard drive.. since its not needed.. it just takes an app
to access a bad hard drive and it will lock up pc as well.. remove all hard ware you
dont need if testign with live cd until its stable if ever.. then put
things back.. like memory keys mouse.
try another mouse. or keyboard even.. as no days even a bad usb port can cause
issues and blue screens

I think I got 7b errors when the hard drive was bad and was corrupting the swap and temp
files for windows..

does the hard drive light stay on? again try livecd with hard drive on sata channel
but leave cdrom line dont even use eub key so can eliminate usb hardware problem if can

That pretty much rules out a HD problem but does leave motherboard and RAM as possible culprits. I trust you have eliminated the possibility of a boot sector virus?

Having both the stop 0x7b and ntdll.dll errors strongly suggests RAM issues. I'd be inclined to run some extensive testing on your memory modules, not just memtest, to be certain.

Really, these errors could be just about anything. I doubt you will get very far with your supplier until you manage to track down exactly what is faulting.

I after the first BSOD I tried with no HDD and it still happened. Running ubuntu with no hdd in system. Currently running mprime again but just the normal test rather than the stress test and has been going for an hour now

I'd run HCI Memtest: http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ It's far superior to Prime95 for testing RAM stability. Try running the tests with one memory module installed at a time for even more reliable testing.

ok thats nailing it more - does sound like bad ram then or a motherboard fault either of which are the worse
to have,,,and faulty MB is serious.. with all the surface mounts now days.. just takes one to lift or
a hair crack in the circuit board and miles of head aches.. leading to a rubbish bin job !

it can be as simple as a component lifted and barely touching and as heats up
wham..

PC lock

does it lock if you boot it up on livecd and leave for 20min or only when using it
liek moving mouse or accessing web via browser or games or just anything?

I tested both RAM modules last night and they both passed. I did notice that it was reporting 1 stick was faster than the other. But they are only around 1300mhz while in windows and the bios they report at just under 1600mhz

It locks up when Im using it and sometimes it doesn't happen when I try to make it lock up

Ive had memory pass with these testers though.. its hard to know for sure..

think you can force the ram to run slower in the bios by changing the clock
that can make it more stable

even slow down the whole pc might work.. more speed more heat

guess you tried a single stick or new module.. even if its smaller size would eliminate
ram

still sounds MB fault

my pc started to lock up randomly after the big shake of the quake.. so easy for
the weight of the heat sinks to rip the MB when its shaking up and down with 1g :/

I binned it.. and decided to get i7 laptop.. and ECQ didnt buy a new one for me either
was all out of pocket expense.. all they offered was a repair which was lame
time you pay for labour and new MB and anything else.. you might as well
bought a laptop

dos lock up browser! I rolled back from 11.3 to 11.2 flash espc if using FF 3.6 still but
some reports say FF8 to 12 builds (nightly locking)
but you said was whole pc not just the browser.. but thought I point that out incase as well

The latest flash update seems to have some serious bugs, as it continually crashes and locks up firefix for me too, and it didn't do that before the update.

What setting do you have the Motherboard set for in the BIOS?

If you have it set to performance try setting it to normal.

I actually found a person with a similar problem like yours with the same MB over at Toms Hardware.

"What happens is that my computer freezes up and a loud buzzing noise starts comming from my speakers, hereafter i click the reset switch on my computer and everything will be fine until next time."

and what they ended up doing.

"After running memtest the first time my pc stalled, so i switched the RAM slots and ran memtest again which ended in an error message #2 @ their FAQ.. It all came down to the bios settings on my Motherboard having a "performance setting" which i had chosen to run with,. After switching back to normal i got windows message saying i couldnt boot windows because of a (if i remember correctly) hardware error,. I then chose to Format C: and reinstall windows and using default bios settings, havent had a crash since.
And i hope it will stay that way..

arr someone backing up what I said about forcing the MB at a slower clock speed and see
if helps..

could be a MB design flaw or wrong setting.. making stuff run faster then should
always leds to problems.. its like over clocking
