Hi guys,

I recently upgraded the graphics card in my old box from a Geforce4 Ti4200 to a Sapphire HD3650 (AGP).

This was thanks to some very helpful advice from guys on these forums.

Problem: With the new card in after 10-15 seconds of running, my computer hangs. (i.e. completely freezes)

I have tried the following:

Trawling through my BIOS looking for any settings which affect the GFX card, but found none that I understood.

Upgrading the PSU from 300Watts to a Corsair 450Watt

Running the computer in safe mode, and installing crad drivers from the disk provided.

When I tried to install the latest set of drivers, it wouldn't let me. I can't do it from safe mode, 'cause the installer seems to require .Net 2.0 which doesn't run in safe mode. I tried putting my old card back in and running the latest installer, but it says it can't find a driver for my hardware setup.

Any ideas????

If it's the PSU, I can take it back to PB Tech on Monday and trade it for a higher wattage one (550Watt).

I heard on another internet forum that it was the PSU, but I've upgraded it and still no change....

Please help, I'm desperate!

The card is still causing the computer to hang, but here's the REALLY bizarre bit.

If I immediately load World of Warcraft before the hang, it works fine. I can alt-tab to the desktop, browse the web, anything I like.

However, if I quit WoW, I have about 15-20seconds before it will hang.

Weird, eh?

What could be causing this?

Ask the shop to swap it out for another one to test. Ensure all motherboard drivers are latest, and obviously graphics drivers too. Make sure it isnt overheating - you can find the temperature in catalyst control centre.
