It seems like more people think it’s best to upgrade so I may do that. I will also look into the overclocking.

I can’t seem to find a reasonable prices 4790k anyway

I really don't think a complete system upgrade is necessary.

I've never played CoD but Warzone appears to be DX12 so performance will scale with core count. That said even a quad core is overkill if these benchmarks are anything to go by.

If your FPS are extremely high, first try capping your frame rate.   Also def overclock the CPU as mentioned above - (an Intel K running at stock clocks is pure sacrilege). :)

I have similar system to you, and while I keep eye out for a better CPU in the same socket/age, Im also keeping eye on pricing to upgrade to a newer board etc.

Ive found so far that to get a better CPU that match my current gear, Im looking at more than the price of a new generation i3 CPU, as mentioned above which will generally kick my 4th gen i5 all over the place.....

So in between spending on other hobbies etc, Im trying to throw a few pennies towards a new board and RAM.

The price of 4th gen i5 gear seems to be fairly high, so I'll be able to recoup some of the costs back by selling this one. (well truth is, this system will probably become the home server and the old gen 3 i5 system will be sold off)

I'm still running an i7-870 - oc'd to 3.8GHz with HT enabled. Still runs surprisingly well. I figured I'd have to go to 6th gen at a minimum to get any meaningful improvement, and generally people (on trademe & the like) ask too much for second hand gear, so going new is really a better option when warranties etc are all considered.

I'm a noob when it comes to PC's so just reading up about overclocking to make sure I do it right. Hopefully that does the trick.

op, you don't need a 4790k you need a locked unoverclockable 4770 or xeon equivalent which is significantly cheaper and has hyperthreading which is what you actually need.

i went from a 4590 to a 4770 and i gained 40fps with the exact same 1070 type system you're using
