I dont really want to be reinstalling right now since I have a lot else on.

Is there a way to make it last a bit longer, would rather the reinstall correspond with some new hardware in about a months time.

Sorry, but the obvious response is haven't you had enough warning to have thought about that before now?

Yes, and I was planning on installing when I get a new mobo soon so I can be rid of this AMD piece of crap. When I can afford the new mobo I will do the install.

I can only find things on google about the older releases, not 7100.

This may or may not work for 7100, but open up command prompt and type
slmgr.vbs -rearm
This should extend by 30 days in a standard Vista/Windows 7 setup, no idea if it works for the RC.

You can use this command 3 times. And yes, its legal of course.

edit: testing this in a virtual machine now.
edit2: okay it looks like its not as successful as the RTM version. It will give you 3 days before automatic activation, so i have no idea if it'll help. Use this as a last resort.

My suggestion would be upgrade the RC to the RTM version and install without a product key. This will cause it to use the default key (allows you to use it for 30 days) and THEN you can use this rearm method on the RTM version, giving you 3rearms x 30 days plus the original 30 days to enter a valid product key = 4 months total to sort your stuff out.
Instructions for upgrading RC > RTM here

Note as i understand it, this is all legal because the rearm feature is added in by microsoft, and you still have to buy the full version in the end.

Yeah, I will do the changes to get the full to install on 7100 but not use the key till I change hardware.

Do they still have that obnoxious thing that XP had where you have to enter about 50 digits into an IVR that then reads back another stupidly long number to activate when you have used the key recently?

Yes if youve activated it once already.
