Hi,

I have just built a new PC for my parents. It is a Celeron 1.8ghz, 4GB RAM, with Windows 7 64bit.

I installed AVG, office 2003, and the latest Firefox. They all worked fine. Then I installed Thunderbird 3.0.4 and it started acting quite sluggish. I checked the resource monitor, and TB was using 100% CPU. I know there have been issues with IMAP accounts causing this, however it is a POP account that I have setup (iHug/VF). I then removed the account, and still the same. Even a re-install didn't change anything.

At the moment I am setting up windows live email client, however I would prefer TB. Any suggestions as to what is going on? I can't find any answers on google or bugzilla.

Thanks.

What addons are you using? Any?

I have not experienced any problems, with 6 IMAP and 1 POP account. I'm also using W7 x64.

Go Hawks!

If you are using the 64bit Windows are you also using the 64bit version of Thunderbird?

(Sorry - kneejerk reaction...)

No add ons. Was like this from when I finished install.

As far as I can find, there are no specific 32/64bit versions. I have the same version setup on my W7 64bit machine at home and no problems with 3 POP accounts.

Does this problem occur only when inicitating Thunderbird or while using it or at all times?
does Thunderbird starts on booting time?
Did you make a system restore point before installation or thunderbird made one? if yes you can reverse the changes and try againg.

What Anti-Virus are you using? Most of them are terrible and intercept POP3/IMAP connections.

I've seen this high CPU before when antivirus programs are causing Thunderbird to lag, making it chew a lot of CPU.

Try disabling your Antivirus for Mail, at least temporarily to see if it helps.
