As far as I'm aware you need a BB plan just for any data services so technically any call plan should work with it.

Vodafone actually have a really good blackberry helpdesk, can't recall the number though sorry.

100 mb of data should be ample, I barely use 30mb pm with browsing, emailing and facebook

oh okay.
I have a couple friends who work at vodafone so i might go see them.
cause I'll still need to switch to plan so that'll be a hassle but yeah I'd rather go through a friend..

so you think i could get away with one plan? and still be able to use blackberry pin-pin messaging , msn messenger etc?

Yes, all you need is one BlackBerry plan for all data-based apps, including BB pin-pin and BB Messenger. I'd recommend these apps to download:
1. Opera Mini browser. Much better than BB browser.
2. Engadget app.
3. Viigo
4. all sorts of weather apps
5.Ubertwitter for Twitter client
6. Google maps

Also remember, if you ever travel overseas, BlackBerry mobile data roaming is more expensive than standard mobile data roaming - it's always $30/MB regardless of network.

I can't speak for BIS; but my BES Bold will happily use BBIM over WiFi.

To use BES, you must have a BES (or BPS/BES express) server in your organization.

haha yea thats what I thought.

Pretty worthless but just wanted to add that I got BB Browser working with wifi only..

Just had to set the Browser Configuration to Hotspot and then it uses the WiFi connection.
Nimbuzz App does MSN & Google talk albeit not as nicely as BB's Live Messenger/Google Talk.

I really had no idea Blackberry is such a restricted platform.....

What you want is BIS, thats for individuals & SME's. If you have friends that use Google talk & BBM, its the way to go. I send thousands of IM's, BBM's, & emails a week and its all covered in the BIS data plan. (plus RIM compress the f!?k out of data so 1MB of BB data is like 5-10MB of iPhone/smartphone data.

I see. So speeds of im etc would be comparable to using a WIFI router I suppose.
Will probably invest in it when I settle locations. I think Australias plans are a tad better than NZ, albeit still pretty crap compared to say UK where my cousin lives..
