I'm talking for Ps3 here, so I dont need it for online play,  but the PS4 thread got me looking at it and it seems very good value.

for basically $8 per month or so ($90 per year),  I get access to a range of games to download. they add new games each month and I can continue playing the ones I previously downloaded as long as I remain a PS+ member.

looking at what is available right now:

Kingdoms of Amalur
XCom Enemy Unknown
Uncharted 3
LOTR war of the north
ICO and shadow of the collosus remastered (two classic PS2 games)
Demons Souls
as well as a few indie titles that look pretty cool.

All that for only $8 bucks a month, with new games added every month?

that sounds extraordinary good value to me - I only own Uncharted 3 out of that lot, and the rest are games that all rated reasonably well

and you also get access to a bunch of other things that seem quite nice too (automatic updates, discounts on other games, access to betas, cloud storage of save games etc)

Am I missing something here or is it as good as it sounds?

Yeah I subscribe to PS+ for the free games, Mass Effect 3 and Hitman Absolution were in there April/May. Cost me $25 for 3 months and I so far have got about $200 worth of games (assuming trademe sales) out of it

good to hear. I was considering buying Xcom the other day, but we are talking $50-60 just for that one game.
If I pay an extra $30 then not only do I get Xcom, but access to all these other games too. Just seems incredibly good value. I can subscribe to this, and probably never buy another Ps3 game again unless I want brand new releases, (which I usually dont bother with)

It;s like paying for 1-2 games every year, but getting dozens and dozens

Yeah it sure can be good value, but really only for the PS+ exclusives in my opinion.

Recently i've picked up Borderlands 1 and 2 and Hitman Absolution. There are plenty of others that include indy game bundles for the same price as one of them individually.

I'll continue my subscription for sure.

I find it good value except for when last month I downloaded Hitman which was about 5-7 GB from memory and the downloaded corrupted. That would not normally bother me expect it put me over my data allowance for the month. So I essentially paid for a corrupt download. Cool. Ofc it's not really anyones fault, but I pay!

My rational is that basically for the price of one game I get a heap of others (I'm not really a finisher). I still buy the big games I want.

It's great value if you have a large data cap. Also lets you try games you wouldn't normally play. What I usually do if i'm about to hit my data cap and want a game is to set it to download and then cancel the download.
Then you can always re-download it from your queue whenever you want providing you still have PS+.

So I was right in reading the uncharted 3 game was 33gb?

I've got 150GB cap so not worried about hitting it. I rarely go over 120GB, and if I am downloading a Ps3 game then I will be spending less time on netflix, so it will likely balance out.

Playing xcom at the moment, and have just downloaded lotr and kingdoms of amulur. Haven't tried other of them yet. Total was about 35GB I think, but I will get way more than 35 hours usage out of them combined, so from a data usage point of view it's more efficient than netflix :)
