Just a bit of a tip if you've got a network with a USG or Edgerouter (also Mikrotik) if you're managing a few devices set up DHCP Option 43 so UniFi devices automatically show up on the controller ready to adopt. Just do a quick Google.

 

This is simple with the Edgerouter - go into your DHCP server and add "223.165.66.193" into the UniFi Controller portion of your DHCP pool:

When I plugged in my UniFi AC Pro it automatically showed up in the controller ready to adopt. Just ensure you're logged into the controller before plugging in your gear but this is often easier than running set-inform on a bunch of devices.

 

Note: This is not really the recommended option as it doesn't allow me to change the controllers IP without your devices going offline. I'll always attempt to ensure they're informing to the controller via DNS but sometimes this is a little more difficult.

Hey guys, I'm trying to get my parents new Unifi setup on the cloud controller but I can't seem to get it to connect to the cloud controller,

 

 

 

I've tried the Device Discovery extension and it shows up 2 devices with the same MAC and IP addresses, screenshot of what it looks like attached, but when I input the address for the cloud controller and click execute the window closes but nothing changes, I then tried to SSH in and use the command line, and I put in the address as per the first post but nothing comes up in the cloud controller under devices.

 

 

 

Am I missing something? I assume it is a firewall problem blocking outbound somewhere but wanted to check that my thought process was right. My folks are running a Fritzbox as their router if that makes a difference.

 

 

 

Let me know if you can shed any light on this one?

I've had varied success with the new Ubnt discovery tool. Pretty much just use it now to find the IP quickly and then SSH in and run set-inform. Also a good idea to be logged in to the controller and on your site as it seems a bit funny what site new AP's drop in to. As Michael mentioned, he can just move your AP to your site as required if it pops up somewhere else.

Just since a few people were having problems with informing I've automated the adoption on the server to make it easier. The new script (written in node.js) will automatically adopt and move the device to your site once it detects an inform from an authorized mac address. If you've tried the UniFi controller before but gave up for some reason then I encourage you to give it another shot. Just did some testing tonight and it appears to work quite well:

 

 

I've updated the OP with the information I need from you. You'll still need to set-inform twice however it'll be easier as you can set_inform, wait 5 seconds then do it once more and it'll be done.

Nice! I take it this will make your life easier too, not having to keep your eyes peeled for new adoptions all the time.

 

FWIW to everyone considering Unifi once you do get your devices adopted this system works incredibly well, and requires minimal setup to get a goo functioning network/networks going.

Nice. How does it know what site to move the device too? Are you collecting MAC addresses when setting up new sites?

I'm asking for the mac address of the device(s) people want to add - will be doing it from now on as it saves so much overhead from myself. The script expects a file (named as the site ID) with a list of mac addresses and watches the UniFi logs. When a new device is informed the script checks the files for the mac address and if it finds it will login to the UniFi portal to adopt it and move it to the site ID automatically - the whole process takes 2 seconds start to finish.

Hiya,

 


Just wondering what firewall holes you opened inbound/nat rules to make this work for everyone?

I run the controller on my Synology NAS and whilst i have no way near the smarts to automate adoption etc.. i'd like to be able to use my NAS/DOCKER image to control my AP's along with the ones at my parents/mates house as they aren't techy.

I have just the port that is in the announce URL forwarded to my cloudkey to let offsite things work. No others seem required, but I only have APs out on the internet, not USGs or switches - yet.

Has anyone else had problems with the main ethernet port going down? At around the same time everyday the port goes down and all wireless devices lose connectivity.

Here's what I've found out.

 

     

  1. I'm not able to ping or SSH to the AP from the wired network.
  2. The wireless network is still visible but since the AP cannot connect to the router (for DHCP), the devices are not assigned an IP address. If I statically assign an IP, I can connect to the AP via wifi.
  3. If I plug an ethernet cable into the secondary port, the AP regains connectivity.
  4. If I run "ip link" in an SSH terminal, br0 state = UP, eth0 state = DOWN.
  5. Here's what I have to do to bring the ethernet port back online. Only then do I get an IP address on my network and can then go through the inform process again.

     

    • Perform a factory reset by pressing the reset button for 5+ seconds.
    • Using an android tablet and the Unfi app, scan the QR code on the bottom of the AP.
    • Ping -t <IP Address of AP> to keep alive.
    • Inform AP

 

Router is an ASUS DSL-N66U (and acts as the DHCP server)

 

AP is powered by the Ubiquiti supplied POE injector. AP has a static DHCP reservation on router.

 

Any ideas?

@Ruphus I use the same AP as yours and have not had any problems. I've forced a firmware reflash and re-provision of your AP. Just leave it for now and see if it gets any better.
