New EdgeRouter firmware 2.0.0-alpha.1 has been released by Ubiquiti Employee UBNT-afomins Tuesday - last edited yesterday

New alpha release 2.0.0-alpha.1 is available here:

Note: The ER-X/ER-X-SFP/EP-R6 has more limited storage, and in some cases, an upgrade may fail due to not enough space. If this happens, remove the old backup image first (using "delete system image" command, see here for more details) before doing an upgrade.

More details can be found in the release notes below. Please give it a try if you are interested in the new features/changes to help us test them so that we can get the release out sooner! Thanks very much!

[Release Notes v2.0.0-alpha.1]

Changelog

Changes since v1.10.3

New features:

  • Upgraded underlying Debian distribution from Wheezy to Jessie. NOTE: you will need to manually set "distribution jessie" in order to install 3rd party packages from Debian repository:set system package repository $YOUR_REPO_NAME_HERE distribution jessie
  • init was replaced with systemd

Enhancements and bug fixes:

  • [WebGUI] - Fix stored XSS vulnerability when creating username via WebGUI
  • [WebGUI] - Fix wrong icmpv6 protocol name when configuring firewall. Discussed here
  • [WebGUI] - Fix bug when GUI was unable to set "1000/full" for fiber interface on ER-X-SFP. Discussed here
  • [WebGUI] - Hide admin-only sections in "System" tab for operator user
  • [L2TPv3] - Fix bug when L2TPv3 interface sometimes disappeared after reboot. Discussed here
  • [Security] - Disable SSH port forwarding for operator user
  • [BGP] - Fix bug when rib process was constantly consuming 60% CPU time if "maximum-paths" was set. Discussed here
  • [OSPF] - Fix bug when OSPF hello-timer for point-to-multipoint interfaces was ignored. Discussed here
  • [OSPF] - Fix Fletcher16 checksum calculation bug that caused OSPF session timeout with Cisco IOS routers. See description here
  • [OSPF] - Fix bug when ospfd randomly crashed after changing OSPF interface network type
  • [SNMP] - Fix bug when PPPoE interface description was missing in SNMP. Discussed here
  • [DHCP] - Fix bug when DHCP server crashed because bad configuration passed validation. Discussed here
  • [Fan] - Optimize fan control logic for ER-Infinity to make sure that CPU does not overheat. Discussed here
  • [Ethernet] - Fix bug when ethernet interfaces randomly failed to send/receive all packets after changing interface speed.

Known issues:

  • Configuration gets corrupted when deleting DHCP server via UNMS on ER-12
  • IPsec offloading does not work
  • ssh-recovery functionality does not work
  • All routing daemon are loaded on start even they are not being used
  • Bandwidth test via UNMS will not work because iperf package is missing. Workaround is to install iperf manually:apt-get install iperf

Updated software components:

  • Upgraded linux kernel from 3.10.107 to 4.9.79 for Octeon-based routers (ER, ER-pro, ER-lite, ER-PoE, ER-Infinity)

I've just moved over 2 degrees. Can't seem to get ipv6 allocated to end devices. I can see a /56 being provided to the eth2 (my LAN) interface and added the vif 10 into the commands so not sure why not working... Any hints?
Running Edge router lite 1.10.3

Here is how I setup IPv6:

set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth0 host-address '::1'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth0 prefix-id ':2'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth0 service slaac
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth1 host-address '::1'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth1 prefix-id ':0'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth1 service slaac
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth2 host-address '::1'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth2 prefix-id ':1'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth2 service slaac
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 prefix-length /56
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd rapid-commit enable
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 ipv6 dup-addr-detect-transmits 1
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 ipv6 enable
set protocols static interface-route6 '::/0' next-hop-interface pppoe0

You'll need to add in your VLAN10 to the above
I strip my VLAN10 at the modem, makes for a much easier to configure setup on ERL3
IPv6 is off by default so possibly all you need is 'set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 ipv6 enable' if you can see /56 on LAN

Something is trying to work....

Jun/09/2018 01:59:48: ifaddrconf: failed to remove an address on pppoe0: Cannot assign requested address
Jun/09/2018 01:59:48: update_ia: failed to update an address ::

I can now see /56 assigned to eth0,eth1,eth2 but nothing on ppoe0 or eth0.10....

ppoe0 has a fe80 /10 assigned to it... which is not overly helpful

Did you run the wizard to setup 2D pppoe connection like this:

From memory that sets up IPv6, but doesn't enable it
in CLI run this:
set interfaces ethernet eth0 vif 10 pppoe 0 ipv6 enable

The above is the default eth1 and 2 as LAN and eth0 as WAN
That should be it, it should work from here
You'll need to setup IPv6 Firewall after this, plus anything else

If not keen to start from scratch can you then run this command in CLI:

show configuration commands interfaces

Remove pppoe login and PW
And paste back here (highlight text in CLI then press CTRL+C)
I'll have a looksy

There is no need for pppoe0 or eth0.10 to have a unicast IPv6 address - only having a link-local address is just fine.  With IPv6, a link-local address can be used as the next-hop address from the ISP router.  If your devices can connect to the Internet via IPv6, that is all that matters.

Run it again with the the wizard per the above screenshot and still no luck, devices still not receiving IPv6 address but a getting a /56 on both the eth1 and eth2 with the fe80/10 on ppoe and logs filled with the below still...

Jun/11/2018 08:33:23: ifaddrconf: failed to remove an address on pppoe0: Cannot assign requested address
Jun/11/2018 08:33:23: update_ia: failed to update an address ::

@mentalinc Did you follow the directions on the first post? I've got 2degrees IPv6 running totally fine. Are you running the Alpha 2.0 firmware as I believe there is a bug in this (why I have not switched myself).

v2.0 Alpha1 Firmware needs pppoe started manually as it won't on first boot after update.
But then you won't have any interweb if pppoe wasn't working, and mentalinc can see /56 on eth ports

But other than that works just fine for me, but better of with 1.10.3

After a PM it might be baby jumbo frames, MTU of 1500 on pppoe, said to try 1492

I started following the steps in OP but no luck, tried the wizard (all on a freshly soft reset (button not GUI reset)

Not running v2.0 (was going to get it all working before I tried the beta - but will hold off given your comment)

Can someone share their config backups (the config.boot file) (via pm with auth stuff removed) so I can see what is missing on my end?

Spent way too many hours over the weekend trying to get it up and running...

change MTU and to /60 instead of /56 still no luck it seems...

Have a look here https://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/32003-edgerouter-erlite-3-experiences/
Its my settings when I first got the ERL3 and learned how to setup via CLi

I don't use it any more, as I now strip VLAN with modem, but VLAN 10 is in that setup
It worked back then for me on Unlimited Internet which uses pppoe and VLAN10

I could be persuaded to do likewise write up over here if folk are interested.
I will update that post when I get a chance, as playing with LEDE firmware on Router is eating up precious spare time

@michaelmurfy what version are you running on your edgerouter (I assume you still have the ER4)?

I'm starting to wonder if 1.10.3 has a bug in the vlan IPv6 as you noted v2.0.0 alpha also has a bug

I've had no such issues, and run pretty well every FW Ubiquiti puts out

I did have to manually start ppp0e with upgrde from 1.10.3 to 2.0.A1, but works fine after reboots

I'm still running 1.10.3 on mine. IPv6 still working fine.

Can you please send me the config.boot file from the backup?
I can't see why dhcpv6/slacc isn't handing v6 to devices (Windows or Ubuntu) with the config I'm running.
Do you have a ipv6 on your ppoe or only the fe80
