I checked for other threads relating to this and have found a couple concerning the Widcomm stack, but none to do with a bluetooth device simply not being found after installing WinXP SP2, which is what has happened to me.

I have the Iogear GBU301 bluetooth wireless USB adapter, and it worked perfectly before I did the SP2 install. I've now uninstalled and reinstalled it 3 times (with the Widcomm 1.4.2 driver), with the same result. Windows says it's found my new hardware and installs all kinds of drivers and software and then says it's working, but when I right-click on the blue/red bluetooth icon in the system tray, it says "bluetooth device not found". Rebooting makes no difference.

I only use bluetooth to sync my iPaq 2215 once in a while, but this is an annoying glitch, and - touch wood - the only problem with the SP2 install I've encountered.

I forgot to mention that WinXP Device Manager now lists two Bluetooth radios:
Blutonium BCM2035 Bluetooth 2.4 GHz Single Chip Transceiver
Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator
and also reports that both devices are working properly.

[I tried to Edit my previous post but could not.]

I am having the same problem after installing Windows XP SP2 and installing the latest 1.4.2 driver from IOGear. Has anyone found the solution yet? I also have iPaQ h2215 and IO Gear's BGU301.

Well my "solution" ended up being a workaround instead. I went out and bought the D-Link DBT-120 adapter and installed it, following the explicit instructions in Geekzone's Bluetooth ActiveSync Guide for Windows XP Service Pack 2: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=3163.

My iPaq 2215 now syncs using bluetooth with my desktop with SP2. I can't seem to get the iPaq to have access to the internet with it, but don't need that feature anyway.

If you install SP2 without the Bluetooth software already installed or without the Bluetooth dongle connected you will probably end up using the Microsoft Bluetooth software by default.

You have to replace the driver with the correct one. There are detailed instructions on this thread.

I have a Tablet PC that came with Windows SP2 and the Toshiba Bluetooth software. I had no problems using a no name PC Card, a Bluetake USB dongle and a Ambicom USB dongle, each of their own software.

Hi there I have a similar prob as all you users with the gbu301 IOGear usb bluetooth dongle. I tried to follow the instructions provided in the previous thread but I ran into a problem at the step where I'm suppose to let windows install the driver. It says this:

"There was a problem installing this hardware: USB Device

An error occurred during the installation of the device

A service installation section in this INF is invalid. "

I'm so confused anybody ran into this prob? Thx in advance.

Is this the INF file provided with the Bluetooth hardware, or have you modified it in any way?

No I haven't modified it at all. This was just the original. I even downloaded the installer on the iogear website just in case something was wrong with the one on the original cd. But yet still the same problem. Actually I'm not the only one with this prob when I did a search on google but I just haven't found a solution. Thx.
