I've heard others mention latency lowering with these... makes me wonder if they are messing with the negetiation at all...

It's real and I am testing it at the command line.

circa 6ms to Inspire and 13ms to my server colocated in Auckland.

In context I am on a rural VDSL service in the Manawatu.

Also worth looking at this from a logical angle.

It's a broadcom chipset inside, so i'd expect it to be close to a equivalent modem.

Is there something in the router architecture which could introduce that sort of latency? Noting I had CEF enabled on the Cisco, as per CNA recommendations.

If your router was increasing your latency that much, that's a pretty sh!tty local experience.

Is it possible to have a Vlan both trunked and accessible via access ports on the Mikrotik router?

Yep. Bridge the interfaces.

EDIT: If using a CRS read https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:CRS1xx/2xx_series_switches_examples

Yep, rather than explain it, just look at VLAN Example #1 on the Interface/Bridge manual page
