I've also had my eye on this as well as the Nest Hello doorbell. I decided to take the risk and order using YouShop for the delivery address but the US Nest website doesn't accept any non US credit cards.

Talked to their customer service and their reasoning being that the products haven't been tested in New Zealand's environmental conditions. I offered to receive and test their entire range of products but they didn't bite.

Other than the US credit card issue, my only other concern is if these products aren't compatible with the NZ version of the Nest app.

You need to be careful importing anything that runs wirelessly. For example, New Zealand's approved Z-wave frequencies are different from the US's Z-wave frequencies. If you're broadcasting outside this, you will very likely get a visit from your friendly RSM Enforcement Goon.

Looks like that lock runs on yet another protocol, Nest Weave / Thread, which seems to be in the ISM frequency band. But you'd really want to do your homework before taking the plunge.

@sbiddle knows much more about this stuff.

CodeBerry:...compatible with the NZ version of the Nest app...

I've mixed Nest products (two main powered smoke alarms) purchased from and a Nest product (camera) purchased from a traditional retailer in NZ without issue.

all products used WiFi to communicate.

rogercruse: I've mixed Nest products (two main powered smoke alarms) purchased from and a Nest product (camera) purchased from a traditional retailer in NZ without issue.

The smoke alarm and most cameras are available on their NZ store, so I would be surprised if any of these didn't run on the Nest app. Their support referred to the products that are not available in NZ and how they might not be compatible on the NZ version of the app. Personally I doubt this to be the case as it adds complexity to the code for little reason.

A quick check of the iOS app in the US and NZ store look exactly the same with the same version number. The NZ store even shows screenshots of the thermostat that isn't available in NZ.
