Answered by a lady I could barely hear who was shuffling around obviously doing other jobs other than sitting at a desk taking my phonecall.
Then came the noise from children in the background talking to their mother taking the call who was clearly working from home.

I represent a billion dollar enterprise and have had dogs, children, police sirens and all sorts going off in the background during video calls all around the globe with people whose countries are in a far worse state than ours.

You might not realise this but the world has changed just a wee bit and your comparatively minor problem is just that, comparatively minor. The lady taking your call will no doubt try and do her best for you while juggling a family.

I understand that. The call centre is in Auckland and not in lockdown so still seems unusual.

But it was an unnecessary and unusual observation to make IMO, and you are the one who made it no?

The reality is that working from home is a lot more common since Covid hit, but in any case, flexible working was always the way of the future. I for one think it's great the person who took your call is able to have a job where she can continue to support her family. Further I think this reflects quite well on Dyson.

Bravo to Dyson for allowing their team to work at home.

Our next vacuum will certainly come from their stable.

Incidentally, I showed this thread to my partner and she is now considering their new hair dryer :-)

This article tends to support the general trend here that the Dyson vacs are not that reliable in the battery department. Customer service good though.

I do love the versatility of the stick thing. It allows enough power to do the whole house once (we have a smaller house).

Our battery has failed once within the first year, but service was great. Aiming to milk CGA for as long as I can if it fails again outside of the Dyson replacement warranty period.

Long term fully plan on getting an aliexpress replacement if it fails again outside of any warranty.

Well, yes - they use 18650's which simply only have 500ish charge - > discharge cycles. I'd guess the current draw for the motors would cause heat build up which would also degrade them faster.

Ironically the V11 oversized vacs encourage people to use them more with a arger bin size.
However a larger discharge/charge cycle will significantly impact battery health over time.

The fact only a third fail within 6 years is actually a god damn miracle of Engineering.

@Jaxson https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/blog/dyson-replacement-battery-packs/ be wary of cheap powerpacks. If you do buy one NEVER charge it when you're away from the house.
