Hi all

My aunty has motor neuron disease, so I setup a 3G broadband connection at her hospital/rest home. They dont have wifi or land based broadband available.
All fine, her iMac is on ethernet to the 3G wifi router, and the iPad is on wifi.


I setup homescreen icons for her fave websites, but I cannot add any apps as there is an Apple ID issue. We know the Apple ID but not the password. I tried the forgot password, but we got no email, as it seems the email address associated is her long time ex husband. Also the secret questions relate to him. He is not contactable.

So, I assume there is no way I can get control over that Apple ID now?

If not, I do need to ask you experts what implications there will be if we create a new Apple ID. I am an avid Apple user of a 4S and iPad3 but I dont use MAC OSX.

Her iMac has Snow Leopard, I'm not sure she got into anything apps wise, although she said iTunes is on there. The iPad1 has iOS but no Apple ID set. She has a typing thing setup on there, this is for typing things in as she is VERY hard to understand.

Ideally, I dont want to lose anything on the iMac, and prefer not to also on the iPad.

If I create a new Apple ID on the iPad, that won't cause any issues?

How do I add that new Apple ID into the MAC OSX?

I can then add the new Apple ID to her iTunes on the iMac. The iPad has not been connected to it before. When I connect the iPad for the first time, will it try to sync that back to nothing (as the iTunes won't have her iPad in it then? I want the iPad to establish itself to iTunes and backup that to the iMac, so future syncs won't lose anything?
Looking forwatd to any advice and help.

You can create a new apple ID in iTunes on the Mac. Just go to the sign in at the black line along the top in the iTunes store.
On the ipad under Settings> store, under apple ID:, sign in to the new account.

Unfortunately if you cannot get the old password you will be unable to get the old apps onto the Mac. It will ask for an ID and Password for that particular account. If you connect the iPad to the mac it will sync the Mac's itunes library onto the ipad and wipe everything else.
You will have to repurchase the apps under the new account you made under the new id once you are signed in on the Mac or ipad.

You can have apps from multiple ID's on the ipad and Mac, you just need the ID's and passwords, and sign in and out as required. To download what you have bought, just click on 'purchased' at the store main screen in iTunes.
