Wait it says that the 8Gb now sells for $299USD, is that a mistake, or is that the wholesale price?

That's an error. Shoddy reporting.

Once Tosh computers sells its stock of 8GB iPhones, will there be a significant price drop because of the $200USD pricedrop?

Just verified the free software unlock released minutes ago... seems all good so far. Calls work.

Woohoo, will be unlocking mine tonight. Already paid the $60 for the IPSF software but chances are that won't be through before tonight anyway so I don't care!

Told you so ;-)

Just a warning. It's not exactly a "click to unlock" solution. It's pretty raw at the moment. There is also the potential to brick the iPhone.

If you've only got the one iPhone, i'd wait for a bit more feedback on hackint0sh.org first. See if there are any bugs there.

Yea I realise it's a bit of work with the whole Fugu/SSH thing but I'm fairly familiar with that type of thing so I'll be fine.

iphone.unlock.no made a very detailed instruction, better than hackint0sh's ones. I wonder what the ipsf team's thinking by now. Too many delayed orders, and i know many iphone owners are wanting a refund by now. Well, let's wait and see the progress on this.

iphone.unlock.no is a solution only for Windows users, of which I'm surely not. So I'll stick with the Hackint0sh method for now (their forums are taking a hammering right now, hopefully it calms down by the time I'm home from work).

I guess that now I (almost) have an unlocked iPhone, I should be adding a data plan to my Vodafone account so that I can access email every now and then when I'm not in Wifi. Anyone got any suggestions? It seems all I can do is add one of the Mobilise Data Plans to my account and pay the $15 per month for 15MB or whatever.

They're probably sipping cocktails in Bora Bora by now.

They knew this was coming. They knew there was no way to secure their software. That's why they only sold wholesale. That's why they have 500 license minimum order. That's why the required wire transfer of the money. That's why there was a long drawn out release. They needed to maximise money in the bank the hour they went live unlocking phones for the general public. Because they knew it'd be all over a few hours later.

I'd recommend 200mb, surely is a bit more to pay but then you have peace of mind if you ever draw close to 200mb of data, or $10 more for 400mb.

For iPhone I wouldn't go less than the 200MB data plan
Recommended iPhone data plans and all Vodafonemobile data plans

You can add these data plans to any On Account connection and the big one's $10/month cheaper if you lock in for two years.

Also "Settings" > "Usage" on iPhone you can see your mobile data usage, I've done 14MB in the last day since last reset so you'd want a decent data plan.
