I use Outlook for emails on my laptop and all emails also download onto my ipad.  But every now and again my ipad randomly tells me it is  "downloading" new emails - sometimes in the hundreds and even over 1,000, even though nothing new actually appears in my inbox.  When I attempt to delete all the emails on my ipad, it simply downloads them all again - again, in the hundreds.  I have tried marking them all as "read" on my ipad and deleting them, but nothing seems to work.  Any suggestions, please, for how to cure this problem?

What is the type of the mail account? Exchange?

Have you tried removing the account from iOS Settings and adding again?

Deleting them from your ipad doesn't delete them from outlook. So when your ipad gets new mail the ones that you deleted will get down loaded again.

Not sure what you mean - what kind of account.  No, haven't tried removing and putting in settings again.

If you go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendar -> Add Account, you get to choose what type of mail account you want to add (iCloud, Google, Exchange, etc).

Anyway, I'd recommend you remove your current problematic account and add it again from scratch. To do that you would have to know what type of account you want to add - as explained above.

If you are not sure, would be good to ask the person responsible for the email service in your company to give you specific instructions on how to add the account. You might have to do specific configurations depending on how the Mail Server handles client connections.

Well, I'm assuming it's a corporate mail account...

Is it a POP email account, or IMAP, or Exchange?

Delete the account and try to set up as IMAP:

Or (potentially) delete it and set it up as "Yahoo!"
