So stroke of luck last night not only did I sell my series 2 watch but also my 9.7 ipad pro

Cool

So I wanted to ask with the 4g model are we still in a situation where the telephone aspect of the ipad 4g is only for data

or Have the finally made it so you can easily make voice calls?

Not natively through the PSTN, but there are plenty of OTT services with apps that can will let you call "regular" numbers

Magic, and yes.

It's a setting allowing calls on other devices, including macbooks.  They named it Continuity.  Hilarious when someone mutes their iPhone but forgets to mute their iPad also during a meeting.

I find the feature great as I have two iPhones - I can answer any call or reply to any txt message from which ever device is closest and the call history and txt messages are identical between devices.

Does the iPad still only have the GPS chip in the 4G version? This was one of the reasons I went this way, when travelling we used it as our GPS. It is also convenient to use it on its own 4g network as Vodafone gave me a free red share tablet.
