Both my partner and I have Iphone 3gs, We are both on contract but do not use the contact data plan just the $1 per 10mb when needed as we are connected most of the time to wifi.
When we do need the vodafone data we type in www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz and then connect to internet via vodafone data.
well now we find that even when we put XXXXXXXXX in the setting for data both phones still connect to the internet.
I have tried to use only part of the www. iphone address, no address, but each time I can connect to the internet. I have even tried another sim in it and still internet.

I have not and do not want to jailbreak my iphone, all I wish to do is have some control over when I want to go onto the internet via vodafone. I want to be able to block data until I need to use it. I could do that before.
Whats changed?

any help would be appreciated.

This functionality has changed with Vodafone a couple of months ago so any APN will allow data on vodafone. I have seen a couple of other carriers around the world doing the same lately as well.

But I found a way to block data on Vodafone. Go to my website http;//www.unlockit.co.nz from your iPhone and choose NZ - B&W as your carrier and it will set the APN to their one.

The reasoning behind this actually blocking data is it sets B&W's APN who have a virtual carrier of Vodafone but you are not a customer of B&W so you cannot use their APN so it will block data.

Thanks
Craig

... or easily done by setting the APN to the Black & White one:
