I can't explain why, but I want one. As a long-time iPhone user, I rate Apple's attention to user experience and interface. Until now I haven't justified a netbook because I can't see any benefits for the low-power and low-storage tradeoff.

It has less functions than an iPhone.

In saying that, it would be great for less tech savy people who don't know how to use a computer. People like that will just want it to look at their photos, surf internet, and email (with the extra keyboard) I might sugest one to my parents.

I wonder what the word processor is like?

Like XPD, I am already using iPod Touch for a lot of my day-to-day basic internet usage, iPad could just make it easier for web browsing without limitation of smaller screen.

iPad isn't everyone's taste and Apple never said or market it to satisfy every Joe and Jane and their dogs for all every tasks that it should do...

Microsoft's TabletPC concept was good but OEM/Manufacturers have not make it more portable, longer lasting battery and they tend to stuff helluvalot of "unnecessary" into it, but most could make good use as laptop - which those consumers that actually got TX/TX2 would end up using it as... But HP Slate (and even its older day TC-1100) was great! Slate PC!!!! This does highlight that even with great Windows 7 tablet support, perhaps for tablet computing, you don't really need full blown OS?

But it doesn't support Flash. soo many sites use flash, browsing experience is not the same without it.

Next time apple please add: flash support, skype style cam, maybe a cd drive for adding music to itunes. then it will be perfect for cumputer nubs.

Oh I just thought of another good use of it... It will give all other digital photo frame devices good run! Even the clock alarms!! Ooooh we can consolidate all those devices with just an iPad!

HTML5 video is here to stay, I can see the exclusion of Flash - a good throwback at those websites purely only depending on Flash: BAD developers!! They're so inaccessible!! However having said that, if Apple-Microsoft relationship is strengthen, then perhaps Silverlight be on the horizon?

Anyway, I'm all for HTML5 and delighted to see less and less dependency on Flash. Those websites depending purely on Flash, time to upgrade and upskill to HTML5!!!

I must admit I am not an apple fan, but could this be the iFlop oh sorry the iPlop or iFad (stop don't get carried away there). Beside the tablet novelty this will be competing with netbooks and tablet netbooks. This biggest flaw always with apple is expansion and adaptation. You stuck with what you buy, no upgrade path.

One of the biggest short comings that I have seen nowhere mentioned is where is the WiMax 802.16? Most major cities have or will have Wimax soon very soon, even Auckland already has it (only one location at present), and Compass will be rolling out wider coverage later this year. And maybe data cost of say $50 for 5gig at say 75mbps and open voip. And have slow old 7.2mbps 3G as a back up.

I'd say it's going to be all about the marketing. Most people who would be buying it, won't read the tech specs. The techies that do though.....what a disappointment in a lot of areas. Could always pickup one for the missus though :)

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

It's not for me, for the money I'd rather have a netbook (Screens are just as comparable in size) or for ebooks a Sony PRS..

I guess at the end of the day, the proof will be in the iPudding. No one has to buy it.

If people find it makes them more productive or have a better leisure experience it will catch on. It will certainly have a lot of competition from Windows and other devices but I think the tablet style (sans keyboard) will be a big success.

They will never use flash because their company policy is "It jut works" not "It crashes every 5 seconds and is full of backdoor hacks and bugs"

Putting flash onto their devices make them vulnerable to crashes and hacks and that just makes the device look bad through something that apple cannot control.

As someone has already mentioned HTML5 is the way forward, flash has failed to move with the times.

If you look on the apple website you can get an adaptor for the iPad that takes USB or SD apparently so you can copy pictures onto the iPad.

It would be cool to see this feature as I can see a big use for my photography with this device if I can slide it in my camera backpack and use it to shoot (maybe tethered?) show, upload, have a second backup etc.

Support for RAW images?

Hopefully they have a new WiFi adaptor that can handle a bit more than 128k ish upload speeds!

Lol crackup then. I guess your not used to SD storage, multitasking, or common sense... As the post says you dont know why you want one.. Because you cant see a foreseeable use for it, but you are so drawn into the Apple hype you cant see reality.

This is like Sony Vaio they tried to sell as a netbook.. " Look it fits into my 10" pocket!" Tablets are a gimmick, and may have a small market, but they wont touch the mobile OR netbook market.

Apple knows it cant compete on the netbook front, as the price point would devalue the rest of their products, so instead they try and change the playing field.

Gd can you just imagine poking at the thing two finger type style, since you cant use it like most virtual keyboards on devices.... But wait i can get an accessory for that! That will be Apples new slogan.. No SD slot?.. But wait i can get an accessory for that!
