I agree with both of you on some points. To me this will supplement my iphone and I have a hidden agenda, I will use it to develop some applications specifically for me so it fills in other needs.
Not withoiut an up to date iPhone Developer Program subscription you won't. It runs iPhone OS, not Mac OS X, so - you guessed it - it only runs apps sourced from the iTunes App Store unless you have a provisioning profile matching the iPad and application.
