It's a developer preview. Are you willing to sign up just to get something that's not officially released and can potentially (and most likely) have bugs?

The beta release does not have most of the major new features enabled at this stage like multi-tasking as apps havn't made use of it yet and other things such as backgrounds isn't enabled yet either.

If you arn't looking at using it for development purposes i suggest waiting for the final release

It's definitely a developer release. As mentioned, many features are missing. Some that are present in OS 3 are also missing, and some third-party apps don't run anymore. Don't install it unless you're actually developing.

Also, keep in mind that no-body can speak about it, because they have to agree to a contract which mentions that.

Oh, and for the love of all that's good, never install developer releases on your actual day to day phone. The purple screen of death isn't pretty, and the release is quite likely to be flaky.

people shouldn't speak about it but its not hard to find information about developer releases because information can be release anonymously

I'm running it on my iPhone 3G, not enough features to warrant signing up (no multitasking on 3G). Still quite buggy too

You can enable multitasking its just that apps don't support it at this stage

I'm running it at the moment and apart from the occasional app that won't launch, it's alright. Hate the app screen wallpaper, though.

Multi-tasking may be a blessing in the iPad, but I'm finding that it just drains the battery way too quickly. And having to manually close every single app is proving to be more annoying than useful.

Anyone upgraded to beta 2 yet? I've been reading that there's quite a few problems with it, just wondered if it was wide spread

Where did you read about the problems? I'm in the process of downloading it to try soon.

Few problems fixed from b1, few more introduced in b2.. to be expected though there is a reason it is beta.

Nothing overly major - no screenshots, camera app freezes when taking photo, cant select a wallpaper but it wont set it (iPhone 3G).. (well I guess the camera one is fairly major for some - but this beta is deffinetly not for a day to day device)

Not on a 3G you can't.  Multitasking won't work on iPod Touch 2G or iPhone 3G.  OS 4 won't work on iPhone (Gen1) or iPod Touch (Gen1).  All features are enabled on iPod Touch 3G or iPhone 3GS.
