M_I_C_H_A_E_L: So Correct me if im wrong, But I really havent been "wowed" by this update. In all honesty I dont really know what I was expecting. But for the average "Joe Blog" User nothing really seems that great.

Sure the folders, multitasking is fine. What ht else is there really? Word count on your messages,Wall Paper on all screens.

What am i missing here? Dont get me wrong its all fine, but im not exactly Amazed.

I'm taking the view that if it's ain't broke then don't fix it.

Having said that I wish I'd taken my own advice before I performed the upgrade. I'm on TelstraClear so I had to reload my APN and a couple of other network settings after the upgrade which seemed simple enough. Unfortunately having done that I had no 3G Internet connectivity at all so I restarted the iPhone and discovered that it had blown away all the settings that I had just loaded so I had to input them all again. Now it appears to have very limited connectivity - so slow that it's unusable.

I'm hoping that by coincidence Vodafone and/or TelstraClear might be having network issues tonight and all will be well when I try it again in the morning but that might be wishful thinking.

Is anyone else having connectivity problems after the iOS upgrade, or any general issues with Vodafone or TelstraClear 3G?

Tard: that's one of the features of the iOS4.

Michael: the main reason I was looking forward to it was multiple exchange support and a unified inbox. The folders mean I don't have 9 screen to scroll through and the multitasking means I can run a skype application in the background now.

tardtasticx: I'm really disappointed that I cant have home screen wallpapers. I have an iPod touch second generation which was brought in december. I mean, I've had jailbroken themes on my iPod before which have wallpapers on homescreen and it works perfect. I don't see that it could be like, power hungry. Every other phone with less ram can handle that

You can get the wallpapers and multitasking on 2g if you jailbreak with Redsn0w this is what I did for my 3g and they work just as normal its great

Updated iTunes to 9.2 this morning, went to upgrade 3gs tonight and got the 1602 error and now have a dead phone.

Can't turn on.
Not recognised by iTunes via USB
Power/Home combos not working
Recovery and DFU instructions make no difference.

Same as reported here

Yeh I was reading that last night, You get those by adding like, 2 lines or so into a .plist file but because my iPod was brought late last year, it's an MC model and I downloaded redsnow and it said MC wasn't supported so I'm stuck until redsnow is out of beta.

gehenna: Working well on my 3GS. Upgrade process took about 15 minutes. Make sure you do a manual backup BEFORE upgrading, I've heard lots of people saying that the backup process during upgrade can take over half an hour if you're unlucky, so doing it manually helps avoid that.

The 3GS is a lot snappier, I've reduced 7 pages of apps down to one page of folders and I'm pretty happy with it in general :)

Okay I have done my upgraded 3GS to IOS4 but I cannot find how to access the folders for apps function

Just drag a app onto another to automagically create a folder

How do you get battery percent, Mines jailbroke and said it would have it but haven't seen it. Is their a on/off option

I upgraded last night and I have to agree with all of the positive and negative comments above.

1. Quite underwhelmed. Don't know what I was expecting, but it ain't wowing me.

2. Folders - the best bit of all. I have gone from 11 screens to 2. Much more organised and easy to use.

3. Multitasking...so far so good. Apps (such as games) now don;t close when I exit to do something else...they are merely paused and will resume from whence I left. Great!

4. Font size changes - great for emails etc. Now I can actually read my mail! damn these old-man-eyes.

5. Camera - faster response times, better picture quality (might be placebo effect) and digital zoom not as bad as it was in Gorillacam.

6. iBooks. Love the free copy of Whinnie the Pooh. My kids are gonna love that!

Overall - that is about it for me. Not as super as I thought it'd be. I think I just wanted more, but don;t know what "more" really was. Still - a free upgrade is a free upgrade.

Like many I too did the upgrade last night on my 3GS.

All I can say is "It's a cosmetic and underwhelming upgrade"

What I have found so far that is useful

1. Folders
2. Being able to turn of Cellular Data connection
3. Unified mail Boxes

That's not to say I have found all the new stuff yet, which in itself is an issue since there is not a lot of info on the use of the new features.

Upgraded mine last night,

I agree, fairly underwhelming, i believe that the majority of included updates should have been implemented a long long time ago.

Folders are handy though..

to those with ipod touch 8G (2nd Gen),

was there a significant drop in performance or battery life? there were reports that after upgrading to ios 4.0, that the 2nd gen ipod touch were a bit sluggish and slow.

I entered my APN settings manually and switched cellular data OFF then ON and settings have stuck - no issues happily using 3g on iOS4.

Anyone having trouble with their APN try doing what I have done. Cheers.
