hi all

am very late in coming to the iPhone party so please take pity on me....


am starting at the bottom of the pile with an old iphone 3 and have downloaded Viber....


my problem is when i go to activate it...i've put 'push' settings to 'on' and allowed access to my contacts but after choosing NZ and adding my cell number (which i'm presuming should be the number less the '0' at the start....i click on 'cpntinue' and nothing happens......


what am i doing wrong?


do i need a secret handshake?

sorry to be of no help, but sometimes the app is buggy (ie faulty) ... i remember a few apps that did not work and i thought i was doing something wrong. no i havent tried viber because apparently the voice quality (had been) poor

Wow, installing viber? You are either brave, are unaware of their policies, or don't care about your privacy.

Have you seen their terms and conditions and their privacy policy?

I am usually not too paranoid about that stuff, and I wouldn't touch viber with a barge pole.

Google for 'viber privacy concerns'.

1. if it's buggy - does reinstalling it make a difference?

2. the window where you enter your number says "number without the country code" which would suggest to me that 27******* is the correct entry but clicking on 'continue' goes nowhere.

FRUSTRATING! have a friend on holiday in the US at the moment who has viber installed and want to contact them!

anyone ideas about my two points above?

I find viber works fine on my old 3GS and perfectly on my 4G. It's not really a buggy app, but the privacy problem does interest me. I get enough national mins so no longer use the app anymore.

Usually at this point you get an activation code sent to you via SMS. Maybe telecom is blocking the SMS. Try contacting viber via their website. They seem to have a pretty active web presence.

privacy info seems pretty much standard. If you paranoid you should stop using Google and pretty much most website/online service. Most public or free to use sites or service keep, store, sell your information thats one of the ways they keep them free. Viber seems like a good app to me. Maybe if you doing something ultra sensitive i.e. Black Ops, Dodgy Dealings or if your the Colonel telling the secret recipe it might be better to use something more secure, not many people are gonna care to much about how I got so drunk last night and woke up the next morning in my own.......

Privacy terms etc are no worse than most.

The Viber guys do hang out on GZ occasionally, so if you do have any issues theyre quite helpful in getting them resolved :)

First, about Shaggie's installation problems:
There seems to be a problem with your Push Notifications. First, please visit this URL: http://helpme.viber.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/24/7/you-cant-complete-the-viber-set-up
If it still doesn't work, then the cause of the problem might be the fact that your iPhone is unlocked or jailbroken, and that interferes with Push Notifications in your iPhone. We've heard that some of our users fixed this problem using something called "Push Doctor", but this is *NOT* an official solution from Viber Media.


 About the privacy concerns raised here: first, a general note - Viber is a service with one of the highest and strictest privacy terms. If you don't believe me, check our Privacy Policy (in our homepage) and compare it with any other free online service (let alone other VoIP services).
Now, allow me to elaborate:
 
 
First, it is important to be accurate – we only collect names and phone numbers, nothing else. Naturally, we collect users' information not because we are curious of its content, but for functional reasons, and in order for us to enable the service we, as a company, promise to provide. Without that information, Viber cannot function. This is not different from any other major social network/communication service provider in our world nowadays.


I would like to clarify again: we DO NOT sell users' information to third-parties, and we keep this information WELL locked in our servers, with extremely limited access to it

In addition, deactivating your account will instantly allow you to delete all your contacts' info from our servers, so the power is in the user's hands.

Awesome, Great work guys. I can't wait for the android version to go public as I have quite a few friends waiting to download it as they missed out on getting in on the beta.

Hi everyone,

I'm excited to announce that our Beta version of Viber-for-Android is FINALLY public, and now appears in Market for all to download!
The version itself is slightly more updated than the previous one (mostly bug fixes), so we highly recommend everyone to download and install it.

Important: those of you who were testing our Beta (after getting the invitations) will have to uninstall Viber, and only then install the Market version. Thank you!
