OK you Apple techies – here is one for you! How can I store a short home video (MP4) on a friends iPad when he is visiting my place – via wifi ex iTunes W7 PC.

Thanks

Hi - the iPad should be able to playback an mp4 file.... but there are different flavours of mp4, so it may not be a dead cert.
Generally an easy way to get content onto an iOS device is to email it to the recipient as an attachment and they should be able to view & save it to their device from the mail app (depending on file size - it may be too big). Otherwise you could try plugging it in to your computer with the dock cable, and drag the movie file to the iPad icon & it should end up in the Movies app.... or click on the device icon when it shows up in iTunes, then click on the apps tab relevant to the iPad, scroll down to see if there are any video watching apps that will let you load the file into and then watch from that app (something like AirSharing or a very good multi format viewing app called It's Playing).
Another method would be to upload the file from your computer to a cloud service like Dropbox, then log into your account from the iPad & watch or download it from there.
Good luck.

Cheers,
Mike

Don't you guys just get sick of not being able to plug in via usb and drag the file onto the device?
That sounds like a crazy long winded way of just getting your stuff onto your device!

Get the ipad owner to fork out the huge $$ it costs to install file browser
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/filebrowser-access-files-on/id364738545?mt=8

He can then browse any drive you care to share over wifi and directly copy the mp4 files etc straight from your HDD to his ipad

@ Jaxson - err, that was four different ways to get content onto the device..... and yeah, it is different from other devices - Apple have a shocking business model..... but, ah, it seems to be working for Apple AND all the people that keep buying the damn devices, I guess...

Cheers,
Mike

sorry, your post was excellent, very informative and one of the four options should help out the poster.

Sorry as in the comment was about the device and software lockdown rather than your post.
