jonathan18:

We're not an Apple family (only a few iPads) so the only ones we have are on our e-bikes - they're mounted in a drink bottle cage that's designed for the purpose (as otherwise not much space on a bike to hide them). https://www.evocycles.co.nz/Product/525259/

I've been waiting for ages for the Android Find My Device compatible trackers to be released - Chipolo and Pebblebee (at least) have developed them but there's been a long delay by Google in releasing the necessary update (I've read they're still working with Apple to ensure interoperability of detection, or something like that). At that point I'll replace our Tiles with these; perhaps the AirTags too if I can find somewhere to hide the new ones on the bikes!

Slightly OT but I bought the Pebblebee units in May and they won't ship them until Google deliivers their update. I am getting a bit impatient as they would have been useful on our last international trip when one of our bags went missing

I've put them in vehicles hidden inside rear lights for the purpose that if the car was ever stolen, phones within the vicinity of the car would have a better chance at picking up the signal from the AirTag and reporting its location than if it was hidden in the interior. Plus it's more difficult and time consuming to find the tag.

And also the standard things such as keyrings, bags etc.

I've removed the speaker on them so that they're more difficult to find if they give their location to someone that shouldn't be able find it (thief).

Good point above. I use them more for lost item finding than stolen item recovery but for the latter, speaker deactivation is essential.
