I bought a Navman MY-55 back in June 2010 when they were offering free live traffic updates (after a 60 day delay) and free 2010 map updates prior to 31st December once registered. I never received the traffic updates until I chased up Navman's "famous" support, and I see that 2010 maps have been available since October, but I haven't heard anything from them yet. Has anyone else received theirs?

I was a little confused by this when I bought my My35? It sounded like it had free map updates for a year but that turned out to only be an Australian only thing with the live-traffic being the only offer to NZ buyers.. Might be different for the MY55 though

I've found the live traffic updates to be useless.

Perhaps you could just drive down the road to their head-office, its in Birkenhead

The free Live Traffic updates and NZ 1 year map update were for MY30, MY50 and MY55 purchased in NZ  between 1st June and 7th September. I agree  how useless the Live Traffic Updates are so far. I'd be real  annoyed if I'd paid extra for them. I've spoken to head office before, when the mounting bracket disintegrated a week after buying the unit. They just palm you off to their overseas support number and then things move extremely slowly....  This is my third Navman over several years, but based on my experience with this one and the company, it'll be my last.

I bought and registered my my55t about 4 months ago and had not heard anything from navman as of a few days ago.

So I sent a query from their website asking if, and when the update would be available, and how I should go about getting it. The response was kind of odd, and rather unhelpful :-

" Regarding your concern, as part of the terms and conditions attached to the Free
3-Year Map Promotion, the 1st installment of the map upgrade would be released
before the 31st of December of this year. "

.. along with thanks for my patience, and an attached terms and conditions.

..follow up questions have been ignored and met with the same bland, unhelpful response.

I'm in Australia, so I guess the details of the offer would be different to yours (3 years of map updates, and kind of useless traffic updates just worked)

The obstinate refusal to answer or even acknowledge my specific questions, along with the unhelpful canned responses, and instant referral to the terms and conditions doc feel like I am dealing with some passive aggressive who has assumed a defensive position before even answering my first query.

I guess they really have earned that reputation for bad support.

Let me know how you go.

Called Navman support today as I thought that maybe, just maybe they would have systems in place to follow up on their promise of the free map upgrade before 31st December, and I found I wasn't even on their list to receive it, despite holding a confirmation email from them dated June 2010. Looks like I have to apply again, and hope my application doesn't get lost in the ether. Same thing happened with the promised traffic updates that I had to chase up a few months back. I know now, this will be my last Navman unless the next one's free. With all the competition in this area, including Android phones, Navman are going to have to raise their game.
