A neighbor and client of mine was talking to me today about some strange outages - their internet drops out at the same time every evening (7pm if I recall correctly).  It does not come back up even after PC/router reboots.

I have not had a chance to check it, but they have had a few Chorus techs out there and have been sent a new router and have tried many options to no avail...

They have an alarm, but they spoke to the company who said they don't monitor it (they are older and very non-tech so they would not have been sure).  I am unsure if the Chorus tech has tried to disconnect the alarm, how dodgy the wiring is, or if it is even wired into the phone line for no reason, but I'm sure they know enough to test this.

It seems very strange that it is only at a certain time. I appears that they find it running again in the morning.

Any ideas?

It's the alarm. The company doesn't monitor it, but the alarm still tries to connect regardless. They just don't take any action or do anything until they start paying. Take the alarm out of the line.

Nice one guys, I was planning on heading over to take a look tomorrow so I will do as suggested.

Thanks for the quick responses - I am not too surprised it was the alarm, still not sure if is wired in to the phone or not, but it seems like the only point of issue that hasn't been changed yet!

Surprised the Chorus tech didn't disconnect the alarm if they found out it wasn't monitored.

Have one, will do. In that case, would you leave the alarm connected? Seems pointless but the alarm might fail if I don't?

Haven't had much work that involves alarms in the past...

I would keep it in place
That means if they want it monitored in the future they can.
