Just been to a house that is getting the below speed. Swapped out filters and tried another router, pretty much the same. Rang helpdesk, and they said the attainable line speed is 1.7 Mbps, which seems a little on the sloooww side. The owner said it was fine until a few weeks back. SS weren't keen on going any further with troubleshooting, basically said nothing can be done, live with it.

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)



- Your general location (or street)



- If you are rural or urban



- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin



- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service



- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above



Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.



A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Posting speedtests adds very little value please post modem line stats,

The customer could live 4 - 5km from the serving exchange / cabinet so the above speed would be expected

Will get them to check the modem line stats, but speed was fine a few weeks back.

Address test comes back:
Network capability:
  • Broadband > 20 Mbps (with the right modem and plan)
  • Broadband > 10 Mbps
Network upgrade scheduled:
  • UFB fibre up to 100 Mbps by Aug-2013

If you are in a >20Mbps area, there is almost certainly an issue with house wiring or the network.

Sometimes what you don't get is a blessing in disguise!

If Slingshot said "attainable" is slow then you might have been having a line issue. Whether its water in something or just need to put in a master filter, who knows. Modem stats would help, and also what were the "fine" speeds they used to get?

Qualified in business, certified in fibre, stuck in copper, have to keep going  ^_^
