Actually large parts of Birkenhead/Birkdale/Beach Haven can't get UFB. I'm lucky where I am that I can get it - 100m up the road, the rollout stops abruptly (for now).

Yeh I lived in Beach Haven till March this year before I sold my place to move to a street in Torbay which will not get UFB till 2019  . Rollout is 2017-2018 for BeachHaven/Birdake/Birkenhead. But quite a lot of UFB has been rolled out from the New World/Chatswood area, back down Onewa Road towards the motorway I have seen them installing it digging up the streets. Birkdale and Beach Haven only have small patches available. The OP said they were in Birkenhead which is better covered so it can't hurt to inquire.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

The whole "5 mo the to get ufb in an mdu" only really applies where ufb has not yet been installed.

There are quite a few mdus in Auckland that have their ufb build completed and so getting hooked up there might only be a couple of weeks. Any ISP should be able to run a prequal and tell you the status of the mdu regarding whether it needs consent etc or if all the build is done already.

Indeed. My old place (on Mokoia Road) isn't due to get it until June 2018 (I just checked). Yet the other side of the road looks like it's all but done!

I saw roadworks on Waipa Street the other day and thought they were finally doing fibre there! Sadly it turned out to be water mains replacement. Oh well. If Chorus were onto it they could have liased with the company doing the watermains and maybe laid fibre at the same time?

single building with my own drive way, but 3 months still pretty ridiculous IMO.

if I'm going to sign another year with 2degree then this is not a problem, I can order UFB right away, but I plan to switch, and don't want to pay that silly early termination fee. Guess it all comes down to what 2degrees can help, or I'll have to play around with it and see if I can fix it.

Three months is actually pretty good, compared to the wait some people on here have had (I think a few were over a year, or close to it).

It may be ridiculous as you say but they are installing hundreds of houses a day in one of NZs biggest infrastructure projects so think of the context :)

If you plan to switch, and as you are a SDU, order about 3 months out, dont tell 2D, once your service with the new ISP is complete then let 2D know that you want to cancel.

Paying for a month with 2 services is a small price to pay to ensure you still have a service during the process and you dont have to wait too long to get fibre

Hi Bunky,

Sounds pretty likely you have a fault on your line if it's dropped that drastically. As others have suggested, try removing all of your phones and filters, try connecting just your modem in to the jackpoints and try them all to eliminate an internal wiring issue, then if you still don't have any luck give us a yell on 0800 022 022 opt 9 and we'll book a faults technician to come and check out your line.

Thanks,

Ralph ^JOB

@2degreesCare Tested with 2 phones unplugged, same problem, and tried plug modem to other phone jack, won't connect online at all, I remember theres a splitter installed at box outside the house. Will call 2 degrees today, thanks!

@noroad Sometimes they work faster than their plan, which happens in my area, I think they planed my area this year, but they got UFB lay out late last year, so if you are lucky, you might get it before 2 years time.

Update:

Called 2D, first technician can't find problem on their end, transfer to another tech saying my speed is fine, line seems fine, he's not sure what I want him to do, like that's the speed I should be expecting in my area, which isn't true, I get double that download before. :/
