I thought I was going nuts reading those earlier, now-deleted responses - some of which were self-righteous and unnecessarily rude and insulting to the OP. I read and re-read them and could not figure out why they had been written. Glad sanity has prevailed.

I was only trying to help. I genuinely don't understand why my reply caused offence but, if it did, then I apologise and I am supportive of it having been deleted by moderators.

@Alasta I was definitely not aiming at you - I don't recall exactly what you said but it didn't cause any head-scratching and certainly no offense imo. Not sure why yours was deleted. You are a shining beacon of sense. 😀

The mobile app says my phones are prepaid but then says I am nearly out of money. One has $23.50, the other $10.86.

Just can't get my head around this. Something my wife and I just don't need right now.

Sorry, but it is nothing you nice people can do anything about.

Try turning data off and using Wifi for the app instead. When you have an active data session the system reserves a certain amount of credit for a block of data. When you're on casual rates, that credit is prepay cash. So you may "have" $23, but actually $10 of it is not available for you to buy a pack because it is currently reserved for a data session. If you turn data right off - possibly need flight mode and then turn wifi back on - the unused amount will be released.

Alternatively consider buying the pack directly from credit card. It will save you the topup step so it is much less annoying in the long run.

if you have the app, then you can just purchase a plan in there?, and setup an auto top up if your crdeit drops below xyz?

Also make sure you are set up to use wifi at home and when out (places you can connect to) to save data.

Data is one thing, what about the sms being charged @20c each? Is that still an issue?

Hasn't been 20c in ... years. A decade, possibly. Casual rates are 9c for NZ, AU and most common international destinations. 20c for RoW, $2 for a satellite.

I'm quoting the rate the OP said he was being charged. On 2D site 20c is rate for SMS on Prepay Plus plan whatever that is. https://www.2degrees.nz/termsofuse/personal/standard-rates/general/prepay-plus-rates

Yes, being charged 20c for all texts and charges for everything else. But, as mentioned above, I have paid them $90 so far and they still keep asking for more.

And I just wanted the $10 prepaid a/c like I had on Skinny where I just paid $10 per month. It seemed to be what they advertised.

I am going to 2D store this afternoon to try to get this resolved.

Ah, prepay ... :-( Right, yes, it's the other one you can't get anymore I'm thinking of.

Either way, once you're on a prepay plan it's included.

@linw All Prepay plan details / charges and what is included are on the 2degrees website

https://www.2degrees.nz/mobile-plans/prepay

In the 2degrees App you have installed you can add the $10 plan in seconds and once added you will not be charged casual rates

Then I recommend you install the 2degrees ' Data Clock ' App for free mobile data everyday

But wait, it gets even worse. The guy in 2D says my no. is not in the system despite it being in my account and both our numbers being charged for everything. How do they charge a non existing number??

If I could have forseen this I would have stayed with Skinny and put up with some calls going straight to voicemail. Now, of course, thay have been paid $90 so hard to just leave it.

I am given the Customer Care no. But I cringe at trying to explain the problem.

Thank you Linux for your suggestion but things are so complicated now such as a "missing no." and the money I have paid them.

Have you registered in the app or on the website? I don't think you have. So, no, the store does not know about you because you haven't told them about yourself. We can charge the "non existing" number because you topped it up and started using it. The system that does the rating & charging doesn't care whether you registered or not. You can use the system completely anonymously buying packs using SMS.

With all the best will in the world: install the app. Seriously.

Thankyou @Linux, I have added a $10 prepaid to each no., in spite of one of them being non existant!!

Now to try to see where my money has gone and how I get it back.

@linw What the staff mean I suspect is you have not registered online. Your mobile/s will 100% be in the system as in the CRM platform staff use

You can view usage in the 2degrees App and you will see where the credit was used
