Introducing the O Zone

We've thought long and hard about how we can make your monthly data allowance go that bit further. To do this we've come up with the O Zone - a group of popular NZ websites that Orcon broadband customers can surf for free. From 23 May 2009, when you visit sites that are part of the O Zone you can visit them as often as you like without these contributing to your monthly data usage.

Sites confirmed for the Orcon O Zone are:

We will be looking to increase our list of Orcon O Zone sites in the future so if you have a site in mind that you'd like added let us know by emailing setthissitefree@orcon.net.nz. No promises but we will see what we can do.

Next step: become the Google proxy for New Zealand!

Shame that nothing I use is on that list.

iTunes store would be nice, Xbox Live as well. Maybe now we can finally get something like Netflix streaming?

Would be keen to hear from you guys about what sites you would like to see on the list. The intention is to add to it over time.

It is going to be easier for us to do NZ based sites as a general rule (don't hold your breath for youtube), but keen to hear of anything that you would find useful.

iTunes and Xbox live are up there for me, and also other internet radio if possible like how you have got George FM.

Does surf for free also mean uploads to that site?

Some suggestions.

Can't wait to get hold of that Tivo box now...

as I wrote, proxying Google services would be such a great thing. Maybe, starting with Gmail

Duncan, dont know if its been requested before or maybe Orcon even had it before my time.... but a local file repository of useful software in the O-Zone would be welcome :)

Somewhere we could find antivirus/spyware tools etc -smalls cale version of Tucows almost :)

Just a thought.

More sites/servers to consider:
- Windows Update (MS Download servers)
- Mac/Linux update servers

We should't have to worry if we're going over our data caps when we're downloading updates for the OS we use.

I know this is not going to be considered, but it would be nice to have free upstream traffic.
