For ETP, the fibre was pulled through the pipe of the phone lines, no digging. ONT sits inside the garage wall, on the back of the ETP.
Have 6 or 7 jack points (CAT5) on 2 lvls, and that took a little time to figure out the wiring. Modem stays upstairs, a small RJ45 jacket was installed besides the phone jacket. Was told could also use the one downstairs in kitchen - but I suppose I had to get the jacket done myself.
Reusing the Genius modem (firmware upgraded on Mon), 30/10 plan, tested 28.1/9.66 right after installation, ping 14. Compare to the day before on ADSL 12.61/0.80 ping 28 (both on wifi).
More smooth than I'd thought. And no worries like so many did with VDSL. I'm happy I waited a few months for UFB instead of getting VDSL.
So thanks Orcon and Chorus, for a speedy and painless upgrade. Same price as before, more than twice the dl speed, 10 times the upload. Very happy - also kudos changing your ads ;)
Originally wanted the 100/50 plan, but figured the 30/10 plan should be enough for us.
If only I can get a CAT6 cable between upstairs and downstairs behind the TV. The house was about 10 years old wasn't wired everywhere.
One question though, if anyone from Orcon is looking - my previous Genius broadband will automatically terminate is it? I thought that'd be the norm, but don't recall I specifically asked about it.
