Ok, so I am not actually with Orcon and never have been (am with slingshot), yet this morning woke to the lovely surprise of a $431 bill from them. I initially tried to sign up with genius several months ago and received such ridiculously bad customer service in every possible way that I cancelled it a week later past my specified connection date, by which time they hadn't managed to connect me anyway. I sent back the two, yes two, routers they had managed to send by taking them to the post office and asking them to return to sender, after calling and waiting for an hour to ask Orcon what to do with them and they gu saying yes do that. From then to now I have had random bills for internet service I didnt get, random email about other stuff. They sent me a courier bag to return these routers about 6 weeks after I returned them. So come on Orcon, Im not calling you because theres no chance Ill get through after the long weekend, get your ^&* sorted and cancel my account properly!

ps. Im not paying you $431 for router(s) Ive returned!

Just don't pay it. Send them a letter explaining they have never provisioned you with the service (keep a copy) yourself.

I switched to Telecom about 3 weeks ago - paying Orcon on Oct 5th for almost a whole month though no longer connected as of the 7th.

Today I got a bill for the next month......and I haven't been connected since October 7th. I'm on hold to them now.

It's only been 29 minutes so far.

UPDATE: I gave up after 40 minutes and hung up. I called my bank (kiwibank) and spent about 45 seconds on hold before speaking to a rep. They killed the Orcon Direct Debit for me. They also warned me the other party might just re-load it.

I emailed Orcon explaining I wasn't going to be paying for a future service I already wasn't using asked their view on how to proceed.

Yep been there - feel yr pain!

I went through many hours of 'holding' to get my account credited with the month or so of unused service after I switched to Telecom and Orcon 'forgot to action' the disconnection.  Finished up with my account in credit  (my bills had been automatically paid by direct debit)

...left it at that expecting to receive a cheque in the mail for the overpaid amount at the end of the month.

Cheque never arrived...

Called up some months later (something jogged my memory) only to be told that the credit had been "corrected" as it was a "billing error".  There was now "nothing to worry about" because my account had a "zero balance".  Spent a significant amount of time explaining to the operator that they cannot simply "erase" monies owed.

Bottom line...  Cheque finally arrived, and I will never again consider Orcon for Internet service provision.  (or anything else for that matter)

Have you tried emailing their support for help? At least they do have a people on here to help.
All ISPs will have problems and customer complaints, infact all businesses probably do. It is a cost of doing business having to deal with them.

After half an hour on hold, explained my issue, waited another half hour on hold for them to look up my account. I have been told that they will need to check with the tracking numbers and cant guarantee anything. When I mentioned it was THEIR staff who told me to return to sender when I asked up how to get it back to them, and no mention was made of any courier bag being sent she brushed it off with "unless you can remember the exact date and time you were advised this I cant bring up the call". Therefore she will not guarantee I will receive the $431 credit. So someone is supposed to call me back withing 48 hours... RIGHT

I would try the small claims court first.

Yes, actually.  You should probably try other methods first but you could contract Baycorp or someone like them to collect it for you (for a percentage commission, of course).

Orcon records all their calls right? There is no way they can claim I am responsible if they can listen to their call centre staff giving me the wrong information about how to return them!??! Its actually laughable they (including the reps on here) are still saying I have to pay for them if THEY can't find them.

Banana?

Hmm, that's pretty stink.

Personally, I would have got some sort of tracking info for the Modems I sent back, that way at least I could prove they were sent, even if it cost me a few dollars to do. You just know with a business that size that if you just return to sender, it will get lost in their warehouse somewhere.

Can you remember the exact day you got the advise to Return to Sender?

Why is it that Orcon "had" the best service 2 years ago, i was only every on hold for 5 minutes back then.... now Vodafone of all places answers faster than Telecom or Orcon.......

fast to answer = good service or so that what it seems...

Orcon as much as i want to like you why oh why have you gone to crap?
Get a good support desk and fix all the issues.

In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.
