Hi I visited 726D great south road the JC matthews web site address. It is actually a firm called "techcentral" phone 09 5712418 email "" I was told by the receptionist to contact simon after i had explained to her my problem with my freeview JCM box. Her coment was it was about 4 or 5 years old and therefore i would have to replace it if it was giving trouble. There was no update fro the memory to compensate fro the larger digital information being sent out now by the NZ broadcasters. Looks like we have hit a brick wall as far as that avenue goes. lets hope something comes from the "fairgo" / "consumer" / "commerce commission" inquiries. very frustrating.!!!

zaray: .....Which brings me to a question I hope can be answered. I have quite a few programs on the HDD, recorded before all these problems started, and would like to get them off so I can view them later. Can anyone suggest a method to do this. Thanks in advance.

You can play them back from your box as normal if you remove the aerial feed from it. The aerial feed is what slows the box down. My mum has the zinwell with the same problem and all the playback problems go away when the aerial is unplugged.

It should be possible to plug the hard drive into a computer and playback the recording if they've used a standard file system like EXT3. But it may need a special driver to view on Windows.

Hi just an update on the JCM Freeview box saga. I have written twuce to fairgo and facebooked them about this problem. Their reply is they would look at it and get back to me if they thought there was a story in it. As you can see they havent got back to me. I also wrote to the CONSUMER magazine and asked them to look into it. Again I have heard nothing not even the courtesy of an acknowledgement.  Looks like this matter will have to be closed now as no one is interested in taking up our problems. Thanks for all the inputs and one never knows in the fullness of time we might get an answer.
