I recorded Monday TVs "Dexter" with the new MCE Beta (fiji).  Sound icon showed Dolby Digital.  I played it back via normal stero jack and at first had only music no voice.  Figured out I had set up Vista to use my normal 5.1 rig so swapped to SPDIF and ran it through my surround system.  True 5.1 sound was played back, brilliant and really added to the show.
Cant wait for MCE to be released as the beta is buggy.

OK, now I'm peeved. How are you geeks getting 5.1DD sound out via SPDIF using Mediaportal RC1? I've tried a number of attempted solutions with no success. Tried PureVideo audio, default MPA, PowerDVD audio, AC3filter 1.45. All are only playing 2 channel sound.

You need to test it with a tv show that is actually broadcasting in 5.1, and I havent found any yet. Tried on the scorpion king tonight and got only the two channels.

Then what about the posts stating they have successful 5.1 audio in this thread, like this one.

So have you tried "Dexter"? I don't watch it, so I haven't had the chance to try it out.

Ice age was using all speakers on mine. The adds were only left and right speakers. First program I've heard in full dobly digital. I've listened to others that had DD logo on them but only got stero. Generally Sun-Tues bad TV viewing nights for me so miss all the good stuff, have to record SD resolutions etc.

Setup Zinwell HDMI, and a TOS cable directly to amp.

How do the Zinwell boxes handle the AC3 broadcasts? Do you have to manually select the audio or does the box automatically feed the AC3 stream via SPDIF if it's available and still give stereo via the RCA connectors?

Underbelly had the "Dolby Digital" logo on it again this week just after the "HD were available"

Ha I was thinking exactly the same thing! Are the set top boxes outputing 5.1 via coax/optical, and are they doing this automatically?  Would really hope so.  Good on TV3 for really having some advanced content to offer.

Cheers.

Have to manally select AC3. AC3 is available all the time (TV3 only at present) as well as ACC+, just if not DD5.1 program and on AC3 then get sound out left and right speakers only via SPDIF. Can't use prologic on AC3 to get it to spread sound around.

Don't have box connected to AMP by RCA but if want stereo only (that pro logic will work on) always switch to ACC+ sound track.

Changing sound tracks just a couple button push's, audio button on remote, and then available sound tracks come up.

Now if only TV3 would sort out their normalising of TV programmes. It would save me wearing out the volume buttons everytime their broadcasts change from AC3 two-channel & 5.1Yell Prefeably set levels to same as AAC so one doesn't have to volume-adjust everytime you change to another station.
