hi i recently purchased a DVB-S box off trade me to find that i can't view the epg though it says it has that function , from other post i understand that you need a mp5 function, but is there any other way?
I think you mean MHEG-5, but you don't need it. The satellite transmissions have most of the same EPG data in a form called EIT.
If you bought something that doesn't work as described, your first recourse is with the person/company who sold it to you.
Mind you, it is possible that there is some "trick" involved (that is, something not obvious and not documented), but for us to have any chance of helping, we'll need to know what the model of the box is.
aaronr76: Orton 7000pvr which is DVB-T which doesn't have a epg either and also claims to have one .
There is basically MHEG5 only EPG data on DVB-T so unless your receiver has this you will never get a full EPG on DVB-T. (There is only a few now/next entries as EIT on DVB-T).
There is full EIT data for the EPG, as well as MHEG5, on satellite.
Send it back then. You shouldn't have to jump through hoops for a faulty/useless product.
As an aside, there are now several low cost satellite receivers out there. The ultraplus 700 unit has hdmi and records to usb drive via the epg etc for around $140 and there is regularly a dishtv I think it is approved unit that has the full EPG for $80 - $130. I'd recommend to anyone that they spend the extra $50 to get something that is supported and works easily and nicely.
