Payment Express, who used to be Direct Payment Solutions until 2015, are rebranding themselves again according to an email today... to... "Windcave".

What an odd name.

I got the rebranding email from them and my immediate thought was "what a weird name". Did they just pick two words at random out of the dictionary and join them together? What does "Windcave" even mean?!? ๐Ÿ˜•

Maybe they are just hot air :)

Payment Express is an actual appropriate name. Not once in dealing with them, did my experience lessen because I thought their name wasn't "trendy" enough.

I'm still on their mailing list and got that email yesterday.  It's possibly a name overseas but initially looked pretty spammy to me and didn't click the 'load remote images' button until there were a couple of hints in the text it might have been legit.

The name doesn't exactly say payment gateway service.

I thought maybe they wanted something distinctive for easy googling their name, but if you google Windcave, google will kindly alter your search to Wind Cave expecting unsurprisingly that you are looking for a cave of wind, not an online payments processor, as a result you will get  more than 90 million results where mostly you can learn about the Wind Cave National Park

Just... doesn't make sense.  I also checked the date and domain on the email when I got it, thinking it must either be an April fools stuck in the queue, or phishing ("we are changing our name, login...").

If you'd ever dropped the post on the way to mailing it in Wellington you'd know that "Windcave" is just wrong.

I heard that they couldn't get "Payment Express" trademarked in USA.

My first thought was that they'd been sold to a Chinese Company.

It sounds like that google translated nonsensical marketing literature which has clearly lost its punch during translation that you sometimes find on Chinese products.

I like it. Windcave makes me think of a wind that goes in one side of a cave and out the other, much like the transactions that flow through their network (they are the cave; transactions are the wind).
