richms:
If its microsoft email, it almost certainly will be their fault.
I agree with this one!
KiwiSurfer:
<1 second using Metaname. It's a simple button click which generates the UDAI and displays it to screen. If it's more complex than that, switch to a different company. The companies I used prior to Metaname at worst would email it to you after a few mins.
< 1 second lol. yes a click is less than one second, but the OP was asking how long. So, a phone call or email to respond. yes its one click but you need to validate it in case its invalid, that happens. End of the day its a quick process to get the EPP/UDAI code, validate it, and respond.
Baboon: I'm on day three of waiting with Discount Domains, right now. I just checked the activity log, and it states the "domain key" was emailed to me yesterday at 2:15pm. It never appeared, and is not in spam. I've emailed their support about it.
I wish I was more surprised by this. I once waited a whole week with a particularly poor cheap-o registrar. I thought Discount Domains would be a tad better.
I'm pleased to hear Metaname is responsive in this regard, as I've just become a customer of theirs for TLDs that are reasonably priced by them. Pity they've some steep pricing for some TLDs, like '.kiwi'. But if I continue to have good experiences with Metaname, I'll continue moving and registering .nz and the like to them.
The code should only be sent to the Registrant email address, is that the same as "emailed to me"?

You don't need a phone call. You don't need an email. You just sign in, go to the domain in question and click the UDAI button. It generates the UDAI and it appears right on your screen. No humans involved. No validation required. It really is that simple.

Yep it is, assuming the average customer is happy to do that. I always validate at DNC is case its been fiddled with by the user and has gone bung
Baboon: Well, something has gone amiss with Discount Domains. They'll hopefully act on my email come Monday office hours.
The email account I use for these things is with a certain very large very popular free email provider, so I'd be surprised if it was their fault.
I actively migrated my services away from Discount Domains when they demonstrated a real lack of knowledge of their core product (y'know, Domains) some time ago, to my immense frustration.
Metaname FTW. Vote with your feet - reward those who support you well, walk away from those who don't.
