wasabi2k: My 32GB Nexus 7 has just arrived in NZ - should be playing with it Wednesday night (hopefully).

Also ordered a case for $0.01 on Amazon - should be about $20 once through youshop.

Did you have to pay customs? I was looking at getting a 32gb model but it worked out to be over the $400 threshold (incl shipping costs) ?? Did you get it via Amazon  -- Youshop?

USD269.99 + Free Shipping = 335.619667 NZD

Even with Youshop Fee (28) = 363.619667

How did you get over 400? I ordered from Google Play

I looked at BH where the shipping to NZ was $50 USD so that pushed it over $400NZD. I have tried using Google Play via unblock-us but when I click add to cart it comes up with an unexpected error. I'm using my chrome browser on Mac. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

edit: Just bought it in Google play, took a few tries but I got it! Thanks for you help. Hopefully it travels quickly.. can't wait

Mine arrived this morning 10 minutes after I left for work.

Now I have to spend the day working on a presentation thinking about my cool new toy at home.

sigh.

Mine "Arrived in New Zealand" yesterday morning too - which could have been the same YouShop shipment as yours?
Did your tracking status change to "Out of Customs" or "Out for Delivery" or anything? Mine still shows "Arrived in New Zealand", but you receiving it this morning has given me hope it may turn up today as I lie sick in bed...

Nope - I signed up for alerts on the NZPost website. Went straight from Arrived in NZ to Delivered.

I am in Auckland - YMMV.

I got mine yesterday morning through YouShop, and as above it went from "Arrived in NZ" to delivered the next day.  Landed cost including all charges for 32GB Wifi model was NZ $365.  I doubt that model will be anything near that price in retail channels until it is EOL.

I am very impressed with the quality and feel.  I did not have a 1st gen Nexus 7, but I must say I prefer this form factor in a tablet.  I have not tested for the GPS bug yet, although given my use-case, it doesn't particularly worry me and I suspect Google will resolve with an update at some point.  I have tested the multi-touch and my screen appears to be very accurate, which is a relief given some of the comments on forums in the US.

One issue which gave me some palpitations was the headphone jack.  Initially I thought it was dead as I couldn't get the jack with my normal my earbuds to work with it last night, however I tried another set today and it takes a very firm push to get it to engage (click), much more so then any other device I have had.  So don't panic if it appears faulty, and don't be afraid to ram it right in there.

Incidentally, I also bought the Nexus wireless charger dock and a Chromecast which I haven't got around to playing with yet.  These were all separate packages obviously to remain under the threshold.

I was also quietly crapping myself and hoping for a non-faulty unit. Seems OK so far.

I would love to see someone do the numbers - is it 16GB or 32GB or both? Best Buy/Google Play or both? etc.

I haven't tried best buy, wasn't sure if they'd accept my credit card.

I got my 32gb Nexus 7 from Google play using my Canadian VPN, for $269 USD or about $344 NZD + $28.00 NZD shipping so that'd total $372 NZD.

16gb models will definitely be under the threshold, they have plenty in stock over at Amazon, Although Amazon seem to have sold out of 32gb models with a wait time of 2-4 weeks, or you can order from one of their third parties for $286 USD, probably costing extra because of high demand.

I'm quietly hoping my Nexus 7 isn't faulty either, it's currently being shipping by Youshop at the moment.

It left last Saturday August 10th. Expected to be in NZ customs by 21st August :-S.

Playtech have pre orders going now

http://www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=45/ID=21364/SID=337454472/productdetails.html

$399 for 16gig one, $439 for 32gig

Not to bad on the price front as you are covered under the CGA if you do get one of the broken ones.
So really only about $75NZ more than getting it from the US and youshop but if it breaks you can return to a local shop.

Finally a reasonable price for Nexus 7.

I usually compare price differences by using the Ipad mini vs Nexus 7

In the USA a Nexus 7 $229, Ipad Mini $329, $100 price difference

In NZ using Playtech Nexus 7 prices, Nexus 7 $399, Ipad Mini Retail $479, $80 price difference.

Not as good as USA but at least it's competitive.

Yeah was meaning the numbers on the faulty ones - are all the faulty ones from best buy, are they all 16GB.

Best Buy won't deliver to youshop or freight forwarders - they just cancel your order (I tried).

No to NZ Release - Australia launch in August apparently.

Cases: I ordered a random one on Amazon for $0.01 - will prob be about $25 with shipping through Youshop.

The official travel case came out recently - $35-$40. Have to buy from US atm though.
