OVER:
blakamin: Announced by Vodafone and Optus in Aussie today. No outright price yet.

Not sure about Sony saying it's not going to NZ since Vodafone had a demo model when it was announced... unless they've changed their mind.

Just to clarify, the Z1 Compact is the phone confirmed to be not coming to NZ. For some reason it was brought up in this topic.

The Z2 is definitely coming to NZ later this month.

I went into the Wellington Sony store today, was told "mid May", with a hint but not definite indication that did in fact mean "mid" and not say the 28th.  They were happy to take my name and number for when they arrive in stock so I guess they're hopeful it will be soon too.

Also said it would be $1049, which is at least the same as the M8 and S5.

Nice one, sounds like it should be within the next week or two then. I hope that a few places discount it to $999 like the M8 and S5. No word on any bonuses that come with the phone?

Won't be pre-ordering at a Sony Store though... they're notorious for not having stock on release days.

Nothing confirmed but a reliable source who of course can't be named has advised some freebies like noise cancelling headsets and leather case might come with pre orders. So lets wait and watch. Mid may is not that far now.

Noise cancelling headsets could be cool. I don't use phone cases though so I'll just keep hoping for a free Smartband.

Thanks for the info! :)

Now up on the Sony site for pre-order, priced as expected. No mention of bonuses but I don't think Sony really do them... Anything like that will probably be Vodafone exclusive.

Interesting that the Z1 costed more when new and they still haven't discounted it!

They generally don't show their discounts on their website, only in store or on their facebook page

True but even then, I was in a Vodafone store less than a week ago and the Z1 still had a $1099 price on it. Crazy when import prices are almost half that now!

Speaking of importers, I can't wait to see the Z2 import prices drop like crazy as soon as they realise how much cheaper the phone will be locally.

Yea generally the Sony stores don't do discounts on their products (and I think it is similar with the Vodafone stores) but they just price match the other stores. When I was working there I never sold a Z1 for the RRP, because it was always at $999 at Noel Leeming

I bought my Z1 on launch day in Oz for $796. The S4 was $899 at launch.
Sony in Oz selling the Z2 for $759 and the Z1 is still $779 on their site! Wow.

I am sure that will change once the phone is actually released well you would hope so. I am more looking at our launch price vs the Oz price as at the current exchange rate that equates to $816 NZD. Would be a great buy if someone is in Aussie and brings it back as then they can claim back 10% GST at the Australian airport. Noel Leeming's 20% sale would be a great time to buy this phone if they have the phone too.

I can't believe there is over NZ $200 difference in price between the Aus Z2 and the NZ Z2. Surely it doesn't cost Sony $200 more per device to get them here. :/

Yeah fair point actually.

Vodafone event on Friday promoting the Z2 (and that Michael Jackson album) at their Auckland base. Chance to win a Z2 apparently but not buy one.
