Has anyone else noticed this to be a real world issue?

 

 

If so, fair enough.

 

 

Have you come across other reviews commenting on this problem ?

What a load of complaining for small things. If everything is solved with a bit of software, then there's no problem really. This paragraph:

My battery has never been better and wakelocks are back in check, just don’t block “Icing” it causes a force close loop on Messaging. Again, this app should be used by anyone running Xposed, no questions asked.

 

 

The author says "If you run Xposed and don’t have Amplify I don’t know what’s wrong with you"... Obviously this is not a HTC software and not a part of Android, so really shouldn't even be in the list. I mean, he wants features from an unreleased version of Android on a current phone and make this a deal breaker?

 

As in this is the warning on the Xposed page: "This module allows you to use several features introduced in Android N on your Lollipop and Marshmallow device! Note: Google hasn't released the source code for Android N yet, so I don't have a solid reference to build this module on. Every feature is based only on some screenshots and decompiled code, therefore not everything might look exactly as in the official preview."

 

Know what I mean?

Any update on m10 nz release date as my HTC m7 was dead on waking this morning and plugging in the htc wall charger does nothing (charges ok with htc one).

 

I fear its terminal, although will send off for inspection.

 

HTC/nz website buy now for m10 refers to NL as my local seller but the chat person on the NL website says they have no time frame for release date.

Three of my last four phones have been HTC (my current phone is an M7) and I do like the brand, but their lack of any (local) comment about the availability of this phone is concerning. I looked at the HTC/New Zealand website this morning and the Buy Now button currently results in a 404 "This page is unavailable" message. Their New Zealand Facebook page still has an M9 profile picture and while there are a number of links to articles saying how good the 10 is, a lot of people are asking when it will be released here and getting absolute zero from HTC in reply.

 

[Edit: "absolute zero" is wrong - there is a comment dated mid-April that says "New Zealand release dates are still TBC, but we'll post the final details to our social media once our carrier and retail partners confirm pricing, so in the meantime - stay tuned!" Does this mean they're having trouble getting carriers to sign up?]

 

I'm in the market for a new phone in the immediate future and would love to get my hands on a 10 in a local carrier store, or at least know when I will be able to, but right now it seems the only way is via parallel importers. If HTC came out with a definitive answer, even if it was still a couple of months away, I'd probably wait. But right now the company's silence is pushing me away from HTC and towards the Huawei P9.

The phone has been available in NZ via online stores and parallel shops for over a month now, i have been using it since it came out. What is this obsession that people in nz have with "carrier" phones? its the exact same phone with a 2degrees sticker on the box!

There is 1 year warranties at any shop, you dont have to buy online, you can buy from a 20 year old respected and big shop like Expert Info tech instead of paying a ripoff price at your carrier. Only real advantage is monthly payments if you really cant afford to buy outright.

Actually I believe there is 24 month warranty from Official NZ channels (Samsung has 24 month warranty) - the last HTC I had came with 24 month warranty. That is the main advantage I see. Stores like EInfo etc are a nightmare to deal with for warranty or RMA. 

 

At the same time, yes the prices that carriers command is quite a lot!

If you read closely, i said you DONT have to buy online, you can buy from physical shops such as Expert Info Tech here in NZ for same prices as online shops. My point is that i really hate this obsession that some people have with "carrier" phones. more to the point, my problem is with the carriers themselves who get the phones from the same factory in china as everyone else does, slap a 2degrees or spark or vodafone sticker on their and sell it for double the price. AND people actually fall for it thinking that it is "superior" to those "cheap shady import shops" , but in actual fact it is the exact same phone. 

 

 

 

But hey, each to their own, everyone has their own opinion :)

freitasm: CGA comes to mind. Buying on an account so it's not a single large payment. 

 

Both these things are important to me.

 

I have all the usual bills (mortgage, insurance, electricity, gas, phone/internet, food, car rego, maintenance, etc.) plus a teenage child of my own and one of someone else's that I'm subsidising, a sick parent whose medical care I'm supporting plus my own health issues to deal with, in-laws living below the breadline who's bills I'm splitting, and I'm not exactly on huge wages. $1200 is a lot of money to me and spending that in one hit on a new phone, when I have a phone that still works, is a big deal for me. It's why I keep my phones for around three years. Paying it off over 12 or 24 months, interest free, on my phone bill is very attractive.

 

Then there's the long relationship with my carrier (almost a decade with Telecom before I went to live in Australia and 15 years with Telecom/Spark since coming back) and they have never, ever let me down. OK, sometimes mistakes have been made, but they have always put things right quickly and with minimum fuss. I have faith that if I bought a phone from Spark and something went wrong, they would look after me. I don't have that relationship with a parallel importer, therefore I don't have confidence they would treat me the same way.

 

Also I have a perception (I may be making this up?) that support for a product will be limited if the manufacturer hasn't released the product for sale here yet. Let's say I bought an HTC 10 from Digi Imports today, and this weekend I dropped it and shattered the screen. How easy would it be to get that fixed next week?
