Hi,

I just purchased a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, 2.1Ghz Decacore CPU, 3GB RAM and 64GB storage. Cost me $299 delivered (from Hong Kong). It is rather good value for money, but I was a bit dismayed to see that it is not possible to select New Zealand (or Australia) in the region settings. It is possible to manually select Auckland in the time zone settings, but this defaults to the region setting when the phone restarts. This is supposed to be the global ROM (MIUI Global 8.2 Stable 8.2.1.0.).

Anybody else out there have this phone? Have  you got it to stay in a New Zealand time zone?

Thanks,

Tim

No 1 son says his phone keeps NZ time OK. Not actually sure about when he restarts it, which probably isn't very often. Think when he got it we decided it was best to set the region to South Africa.

...3GB RAM / 64GB ROM, never seen that.

Edit: hope you got a case for it, they don't bounce to well (like most phones I suppose).

I put in a request on the Xiaomi forum to include NZ & Oz in the next ROM update. We can only hope. Great phone for the money. I guess NZ and Oz are too small to get on their radar.

rb99 I will be shopping for a case today. Hope to avoid bouncing it as much as possible.

Still have a Windows phone myself. After seeing what he got for the money am getting quite tempted to accidentally run over it about 4 times, but I really need to resist...

It is really snappy and fast. Got mine from Supero. Comes with 1 year warranty, even though it ships from Hong Kong. Just a shame they did not get these small details right. It is also impossible for NZ users to list a recovery phone number on the Xiaomi Mi Account website as you cannot select NZ for country code. The disadvantage of living in a small population ( the advantages make up for it!).

I just selected Algeria on my Redmi 3S ... most of the advice in the forums was that location setting only really changes the default Apps you get installed and nothing to do with time zones or bands etc. I selected India to see what would happen and got a lot of Apps I had never heard of and some I had (Like Amazon). Algeria left me with just the right mix of Apps I need without too much "bloat"

I thought I would check and I had no issue selecting a NZ phone number for recovery in Mi Account website

or selecting NZ as my location

Thanks for checking GoranZ. It must be my browser. NZ was not there under the N category when I tried before (unless I'm going mad, which is always possible), but it is there now, so I'm registered.

I've always used Singapore as region setting on my Xiaomi phones, with New Zealand time zone and language settings.
