Hi,

I have a Nexus 7 that that was working well until the latest update (some years ago). Now it is running  5.1.1 and is unuseable and has been in a drawer for a few years.

It seems that "KitKat"would be a good downgrade but I'm not happy about attempting it as I don't really know enought about what is suggested.

Is there anyone out there with experience on sorting out Nexus 7's? It woukd be a pity to throw it in the skip.

Why don't you install LineageOS on it?

Recent version of Android, still updated with Security patches (For Android, not the low-level drivers like Wifi) etc.

Details here.

Muppet,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I've been following these instructions,

http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/beginner/how-to-install-the-lollipop-factory-image-on-your-nexus-device/

but can't unlock the Bootloader so have come to a halt.

I'll see if your link helps,

Thanks

Muppet,

I've spent several hours today using the Nexus Root Tool Kit, successfully installed the Fast Boot Drivers but no Fast Boot Connectivity and it tells me "Fast Boot Device not found"

Obviously I'm connected to my Win 7 computer so I have no idea what to do next. Do you think you could sort this Nexus 7 2012 Gen 1 out?

Chris

what are you trying to install that requires rooting the device?

have you tried installing the factory image? it's pretty straightforward for nexus devices (and presumably pixel, but i've never had any of those expensive beauties).

https://developers.google.com/android/images

in any case, you might want to go back to a usable device first, then think about upgrading to something else, e.g. lineage.

Muppet,

Thanks for your input.

I'm using "Nexus 7 rootkit and I've now unlocked the bootloader but I'm stuck in loop where that is all it will do.

Regarding your suggestions of using LineageOS.  Does this still give access to the Play Store? Is there a "New user guide" or something like a root kit for using it via a Win 7 computer?

Suggestions gratefully received...

Chris

You should use TWRP for all your flashing as it's always a lot easier
