Damn, I'm tempted by this. My S7 Edge has minor scratches but has lived in a case for it's entire life.

The lacquer is peeling on the home button, however, and I'm worried I'd end up with $10 back, no boost for the trade-in and a $1700 phone that is now costing me $1,760 instead of $1300 or so.

Has anyone swapped an S7 Edge with a peeling home button, and how did they get on?

You will probably get more for the S7 Edge on TM as second hand phones go for a surprising amount.  I think people with not much money just want a working phone.  I brought a S5 (cheapest thing they would accept with the $300 boost) on TM and the best I could do was $150.  You can also e-mail the trade in people and ask them if your phone is A or B condition.

In the states apparently the buds don't ship until April.  Any idea if it's the same here?

Will we actually have a 5G network worth the name when the phone becomes available?

landcruiserguy: As i said earlier, the Americans are always complaining that they don't get Exynos because is better with better battery life. That may not be true for the current generation but it had been true in the past.

It gets a bit esoteric and hypothetical.

  1. IRL, what do you do on a phone that is really going to show up the difference between these two chips in a way that significantly impacts the user - it is a phone, not a Cray supercomputer....
  2. Will your Facebook feed load faster if your SoC is built on 7 nM rather than 8nM? (whatever that means)
  3. Will your battery last 3 hours more (useful) or 10 minutes more (irrelevant)?

We've become very accomplished at making people want stuff for no other reason than 'someone' or 'a benchmark' etc said it was better than something else. I see it with cameras and lenses all the time. People waffle on about minutiae as if it is seriously going to affect their photos of cats or children smearing cake. They read that such a lens was sharper in a test or that such a camera can do X slightly better than another, as if any of those things will actually make any difference to what they get out of the equipment at the end. They won't because in most cases the user isn't good enough or they are shooting stuff that just does not take advantage of or show off the thing they are banging on about.

We all do it, I know - but some of us are at least aware of what is being done to us by the slick marketers!

As for 5g be 2 or 3 years before gets to my rural area

I would never go back to Huawei after the awful memory management of the mate 20 pro.  I was rebooting that thing once or twice a day just to keep things like spotify running in the background.

Stick with samsung

According to CNET, Samsung phones running Android Pie will be updated to allow the Bixby button to be repurposed from within the Samsung firmware. At the moment I have to use a third party app on my S8 to achieve this (summoning Google Assistant). But that is only good if Samsung doesn't block it. I wonder if it is Samsung finally recognising that they aren't going to cut it in the 'Digital Assistant Wars'. Bixby can probably go and sit in the corner with Cortana while Siri, Alexa and GA (I wish they would come up with a better name) continue to party on.
Single tap and double tap of the Bixby button likely to be available to trigger a selectable app.
Hopefully we won't have to wait to long after release for this to appear on the S10.....

After humming and harring, I thought 'why not upgrade'... but I guess it isn't meant to be.

I emailed 2Degrees a few days ago asking how I could pre-order (have a business plan). They never got back to me. Their website doesn't let me select my existing business plan to pre-order so it's not clear what to do or whether I can preorder.

I popped into a 2Degrees store yesterday and asked. The sales rep was helpful but was not sure if a business customer can pre-order. They offered to call me back. That evening I missed two calls but no message was left and I don't know if the caller was from 2Degrees.

Anyway, I went to Spark's Business website, they do appear to offer Galaxy S10+ preorder deal to business customers. Went through the entire order process twice (to register my business and buy the phone on a new plan), only to find they have a bug in their order form. When I click 'Review Order' at the end, nothing happens. Inspecting the page show javascript errors.

After all that, myself and the potential S10+ will go back to the fence post.

I think that has probably more to do with the power management: https://dontkillmyapp.com/

There are some work arounds for dealing with vendor specific power management causing problems but IMHO they (OEM's) shouldn't be doing such jiggery-pokery as a substitute for programmers fixing their poorly written applications.

All the early camera reviews I have seen seem to indicate significant improvement over previous models and leading class performance.

VF are also offering a Samsung 43" TV free with S10+ as well, so another $1100ish worth of freebie

Where abouts is that free Samsung 43" with Vodafone? Can't find it anywhere.
