The Fold is game changing. What's so special about the S10 variants though? What features could you imagine paying $1000 + to get?

The S10 is NOT the Fold. The Fold is a new form factor and new series. Like the Note.

What he is saying is that the S10 series doesn't look game changing.

After watching the S10 announcement, I can definitely say I am excited for the new gen device. The S10(+) is a bigger step than the S8->S9.

I dont see anything as a game changer, but the increments made in camera (UWA is definitely an awesome thing to have), processor, antennas (5G, Wifi 6 for future proof), and the under screen finger print reader are definitely going to future proof this device for at least 2 years.

The reverse charging is a nice to have, I wouldnt say its a must have. I would love to be able to charge my smartwatch using my phone and not have to carry another charger when traveling. So I definitely do see some merit in here.

The increase in RAM/storage is in line with expectations, meaning I would really question companies that provide less than 6GB ram or 128GB storage in flagship devices eg the Pixel 3Xl shipping with 4GB ram was a definite NO-NO for a flagship.

I am also happy to see the 3.5mm headphone jack survive for another year. Yes you definitely dont need it anymore (bluetooth headphones are becoming mainstream now), but its a lot more convenient to have than not to.

All in all, I would saw this launch is an 8.5/10. It hit all the right notes. The only reason it does not reach a 9 or higher is the price. I havent seen NZ pricing yet, but in USA, its being sold at the same price as an iPhone Xs. I hate to see us paying close to $1899 for the S10+ model. At $1599, I think that would be in line with my expectation.

That's the biggest issue, I think, with this design - in the days of 6"+ screens being the norm, 4.6" is very much on the small side. I imagine for many tasks a user isn't going to want to open the screen out, so in these circumstances it'll be a significant drop in real estate. Something a bit larger (say 5.5" expanding to 8.5") would offer far fewer compromises.

That said, by the time I'll be able to afford a phone like this chances are they will have larger screens!

Another year, another Galaxy. I see nothing game changing. Will happily keep my Note 9. The blatant rip off of Huawei's reverse charging is hilarious. Most exciting feature to me is Wifi AX.

Funny that of all the features, you focus on probably the least useful for now (WiFi 6). It will be neat in the next year once more devices support it and having requirements that actually make use of it, but I have learned my lesson on buying tech today for "future innovations". Same story for 5G really.

In all honesty, what were you expecting? If you want game-changing, you can lay down some folding bills to match your foldable phone. Compared to the last actual iteration (S9), you are getting more storage options, RAM, better/more cameras, bigger screens etc. Hell, even more colours. I feel it is a solid upgrade, certainly much greater than s8 -> s9. Seems like they are actually responding to the pressure from Chinese OEMs.

I probably won't be looking at it as an upgrade from my note 9 either, but I knew that when i bought it. Buying a phone like that, I don't think there is a single phone worth upgrading to within 6 months given the pace of innovation.

Of course, this is all conjecture without an NZD price really.

This was why I kept my S8+ and didn't take a second look at the S9.

If the S10+ turned out to be around NZ$1500, I'd go for it, there is enough new features and designs for me to get it.

Note 9 was $1800 to $2000 before discounts so i doubt the s10 is going to be $1500.

Whats the bet that NZ just gets a wireless charger or another SD card and not the Galaxy buds.

Our pre-orders are always cr** (apart from PBtech).

In the past UK and US have got free watches and wireless chargers etc

The note 9 preorder and the s8 post release bundle i got (both from pb tech and 2 degrees) were fantastic. Note 9 included the wireless charger. Post release bundle on the note 9 included the watch
