awojtas: If someone cares I have direct comparison photos of S10 vs P30 Pro night mode using the latest firmware on both and can upload here.

I'm interested to see the comparison.

There is no comparison. P30 pro can see the full scene in pitch black. My s10 plus is picture black when I can see the scene. .

All the reddit comparisons show a huge improvement after the update.

They compared to the p30 pro or to the old firmware? As far as I can see, you can't compare with the p30 pro which can see in the dark. This doesn't, but when the light is low it can take usable pictures now. Sorry I don't have an older firmware to compare.

Older firmware, P30 simply has better sensors doesn't it? Firmware won't make up for that.

Here's some comparisons between the S10 (ASE7/May update with night mode) and P30 Pro (v161 update with fixed colours).

None of these are particularly long-exposure, if requested then I can take some longer exposure night mode ones. Tried to include a variety here, possibly didn't succeed as well as hoped.

Click on photo for full image on all these as they'll be scaled down in the post.

Pro mode JPG output (oops - left the S10 on F2.4 instead of F1.5 for this one):

Same image, 100% crop. Note the blown highlights in the P30 Pro and the purple fringing around the tree in the center background.

Photo mode output. There are no orange flames or lights, just red, despite what the P30 tells you.

100% crop of above.

Night mode, quite a difference in exposure time so probably not a great comparison.

P30 Pro Night mode from another angle, still making those red lights orange:

Night mode with ultra wide lenses.

100% crop of above.

Great photos mate. Feels like the S10 holds the details better.

*Edit - advertising links from imgbb removed, and also noticed my laptop lid had been shining light for a couple of photos, so re-did them all :/

This is in a pitch black room with only a crack of light from another room coming through.
There is also light of course from the phone screens, however that is shining away from the scene. This is not all that scientific :)

Notes
- The P30 Pro took several attempts to get a sharp shot, seemed like the OIS was at its limits. I picked the least blurry.
- The S10 took several attempts to get the focus right.
- The P30 Pro focused significantly better when pitch black. Both were the same with the desk lamp.
- The S10 seems to top out at 0.5sec even in Night mode.

Night mode, pitch black, just a crack of light from another room:

100% crop of above

Night mode, now with a bedside lamp on the other side of the room:

100% crop

Lastly near complete darkness with the bedside light turned off again, S10 in Pro mode (to get a longer exposure) and P30 Pro still in Night mode:

Man the color on that P30 looks atrocious, the yellow tinge makes it look like the camera is sick.

Anyone else getting odd video behavior?

If I shoot with super steady, all I get is jittery footage with rolling shutter, even if the camera and the subject are stationary.

May 2019 patch is now available. Mine is VF handset however I am sure it should be put for all 3 carriers. Update size 619.70 mb and does have the mention of improved camera performance.
