Cheers for those tips, but it's unfortunate to read yours is deteriorating. TBH, I had no idea until today (looking at mine to install) of the current incompatibility of glass screen protectors with imbedded fingerprint scanners. Given how completely sh!te the scanner is on this phone I'd be tempted to do what some do and go with a glass protector and just don't bother using the finger scanner; but, that said, I'd hate to have to go back to entering a password for internet banking and Lastpass, given face ID ain't (and shouldn't be) an option...

If I have no luck with these screen protectors I think I'll go to solely a flip case to protect the screen.

What issues are you having? I have been very impressed with how well mine works! At least as good if not better than my iPhone 8 plus.

First off, I much prefer the scanner to be located on the back of the phone - I find it's so much easier to move a finger a few cm when on the back as opposed to having to change the angle of the hand and finger to get a good enough contact when located on the front.

Second, it's slower and results in so many false attempts compared to the scanner on my old OnePlus 6.

Will re-do my fingerprints on a more useable angle to see if that helps.

I have the Whitestone Dome glass screen protector which is at the time the only glass screen protector to work with the S10's Ultrasonic finger print scanner.

I'd definitely recommend it although it's a bit pricey, $65 + shipping from mobilefun.co.nz and as long as you follow the install instruction closely, end result would be a perfect application.

Almost full screen coverage and works very well with all of my cases with no lift on the edges.

The performance of the scanner has been ok after the glass screen application, can be temperamental at times where it'd work brilliantly for a period of time then suddenly it's not picking up my finger print. I find it to be an issue especially after I washed my hands.

It is definitely worth redoing I reckon - mine is very responsive and hasn't thrown any false reads or problems so far.

Presume you have got all the latest phone updates and patches? If I recall correctly one of them was related to improved scanning performance and for some reason it took a while for my new phone to catch up on all the updates when I first got it

It's weird that apps as obvious as these two wouldn't be set this way by default, given it's an issue that's likely to confound and frustrate many users. Reminds me of the overly aggressive battery management of my old Huawei Mate, which I thought I'd put well behind me...

I've been using samsung email which has been so much better than gmail app which probably last year had so many problems and changed over . Last week been trying out gmail app again but slow in getting emails sometimes up to hour later than when i recieve on computer and samsung email perhaps 5 to 10 mins later or same time.Had a look in all settings on gmail app to change sync time for emails which i'm pretty sure used to be there but couldn't find anything possibly changed.

@johny007g: Have you checked to see if Gmail is excluded from battery optimisation? Fixing that seems to have fixed my problem with delayed emails.

To do so, search for 'optimize battery usage' in the phone settings search bar; select 'all' apps to view, and ensure that Gmail isn't selected here (ie, the toggle next to Gmail needs to be black, not blue).

I checked optimize battery usage settings on gmail app which were on but samsung email were off so changed gmail to off. First time tested email on gmail app came straight through then others some times quicker than before but still between 5 to 10 mins so perhaps gmail app must have 15 minute sync time same as samsung email which can't be reduced in time less than 15 minutes. Thanks for tip so seems to definitely be quicker now but think overall possibly keep using samsung email longer and disable gmail app again as long as samsung keep using there app and not change over to outlook which was horrendous to use.

Have tried a few tweaks in settings but nothing helped

Has anyone tried and fixed this issue on their S10 yet?

Samsung's Messages app has the annoying default of converting long texts to MMS, which is no use to me as I deliberately maintain a nil balance on my phone account.

Going by the posts I've read online this is clearly a common complaint from Samsung users for many years, but I'm yet to find a solution (well, one that doesn't involve something substantial like rooting the phone). Has anyone here managed to get around this, and if so can they share the solution?

I know one solution is to swap text apps; pre-S10 I used Google's own Messages app, which sent long SMSs without issue. My reasoning for trying to stick with Samsung's native app is the better support is provides in terms of reading and sending texts on the Galaxy watch... but unless I can fix this MMS issue I think I'll give up and go back to the Google app (given I also miss the 'archiving' feature), and screw that better phone/watch integration.

Thanks for any ideas!

You will be able to see and reply to any sms app on your Galaxy watch because it all works through the notifications functionality. You can only start a new text or send one with bixby through the native Samsung messaging app. I can live without those two features.

I recommend signal. It's the only app that's actually secure. Signal to signal messages go over data and have read receipts just like the Apple people have. Any message to a non signal prerson are just sent as normal sms. It also has (secure) voice and video calling. I share my 2 degrees data with the family so the kids can call and text us without having to buy a monthly prepaid pack. Highly recommended.

Cheers, guys - will give Signal a go.

In the few weeks I've had this phone I can't say I've really taken advantage of any of the better text integration with my watch, so it shouldn't be something I miss! Still, why would Samsung release a text app that is restricted in this manner?
